The first Wonder Woman movie which introduced us to the marvel that Gal Gadot is, was a tremendous success.
In fact, after a long time, it seemed like DC’s constant struggle to bring its heroes together could come to a halt. The movie’s next instalment ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’ was due to hit the big screens this year but owing to the Covid-19 pandemic, the release date has now been pushed.
However, if director Patty Jenkins is to be believed, after this instalment, ‘Wonder Woman 3’ is not the only movie in the Amazonian warrior’s universe that we are going to witness.
- A new Wonder Woman movie in the pipeline!
- Gal Gadot’s stint in this Wonder Woman movie may be quite limited.
- The female DC superhero may not be the central character in this spinoff movie.
Well, get ready, for there is something even deeper and darker coming your way, straight from the heart of the Amazon world that Wonder Woman belongs to.
A kickass story, but without Gal Gadot aka Wonder Woman?
Well, before you jump on the high horses and get all anxious, let us spill the details. This Wonder Woman movie is actually a spinoff. Patty Jenkins, in a recent interview with Total Film, revealed the same.
Wonder Woman comes from the land of Amazonians, and as per the comics, the land has a fair share of its own stories, characters, and arcs which are intriguing. This is quite similar to the universe of Atlantians, from where we get Aquaman, another of our DC superheroes.
The original plan, as per Patty Jenkins and her co-writer Geoff Johns was to create four movies. With ‘Wonder Woman’ already out and ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’ to soon release, this leaves us with the yet untitled ‘Wonder Woman 3’ and another movie in between, the now planned spinoff.
However, this spinoff movie may not feature Gal Gadot, and even if it does she will not be the central character and it will just be an extended cameo. Quite preposterous, when you think of it; a Wonder Woman venture without Wonder Woman. But that’s how it is.
What will the ‘Wonder Woman’ spinoff entail?
As far as the reports tell us, this Wonder Woman spinoff can either take forward the sequences ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’, or it can be a prequel to the entire series, going even before the events in the first ‘Wonder Woman’. Either way, Gal Gadot as ‘Wonder Woman’ is not being thought of as the main character in the movie.
So, what will the movie entail if not Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman herself? Well, there is information aplenty on that. In fact, if you watch the 1987 version of Wonder Woman, you will get a lot of insight into the world of Amazonians and how they came to be.
The Wonder Woman spinoff can be based on the same, and tell the story of how the Olympian Gods created Amazonians to create peace on Earth and somehow influence men’s hearts. However, men being men enslaved the Amazonians, instead. This enslavement was broken by the rebellion led by sisters Antiope and Hippolyta.
Later on, for the protection of Amazon, Hippolyta and Zeus created a child together, who came to be known as Diana, or Wonder Woman, who has been given a face by Gal Gadot in the modern rendition. This is the pre-crisis story which may form the crux of the spinoff Wonder Woman movie, if it is planned as a prequel to the movies.
So, what next for Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot)?
Currently, we all are keen to see our beloved Amazonian back on the screen, breaking the backs of the baddies. Once the lockdowns are lifted and the virus stops controlling our lives, we will get to see Gal Gadot’s latest stint as the superhero in ‘Wonder Woman: 1984’.
While the prospects of having a Wonder Woman movie without Gal Gadot doesn’t seem appeasing, the Amazonian universe is so vast and fascinating, that we can expect a lot from the spinoff, whenever it sees the light of the day.
Let’s wait for it till then, shall we?
