With 8 triumphant seasons, great viewership, and stimulating performances, the Salvatore brothers walked away from ‘The Vampire Diaries’ for good. But why are they back together now?
It’s not a surprise that the world loves the supernatural, even more so when there are two heartthrobs like Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder in the same show. Stealing our hearts from the very first episode in 2009, we made our peace with the show ending in 2017.
But it looks like there is something else in store for the two Salvatore brothers Damon and Stefan.

All the scoop on ‘The Vampire Diaries’!
‘The Vampire Diaries’ was more than just a show about vampires. The show takes you through a wave of emotions through the storyline and character plot. The story isn’t just about good or bad vampires or fighting off other supernatural beings like most shows. Every season in the show comes with its own storyline. But above all else, it focuses on family and protecting the ones around you even if that means sacrifice.

SPOILER ALERT!
The show starts with a human Elena (played by Nina Dobrev) who captivates the eye of the vampire Stefan Salvatore (played by Paul Wesley) and his elder brother Damon Salvatore (played by Ian Somerhalder). Both brothers set on a quest to conquer Elena’s heart because she reminds them of their first love Katherine Pierce. But the next season elevates the storyline when Katherine returns to find both the Salvatore brothers seeking protection from the oldest and all-powerful vampire Klaus Mikaelson (played by Joseph Morgan).
The storyline keeps advancing with every season, adding new allies, more power, and a new threat in each season – but the show also makes sure to turn things around with unexpected twists like the good vampire brother Stefan becoming the ripper, the death of Damon, Elena walking away from the world of the Salvatores and more.
As you get older, it’s easy to write off supernatural shows given the exaggeration and tense storyline that can sometimes be repetitive. But it’s fair to say that despite everything, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ were cherished even by cinephilia. The popularity of the show also gave rise to the spin-off ‘The Originals‘ starring the original vampire family – Mikaelsons.
How real did reel get?
Everyone knew about the carnal connection between Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert on screen, but people soon started to speculate it was more than just the characters and involved Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev themselves. The couple dated for 3 years before calling it quits. According to “Daily Mail UK”, Ian Sommerhalder once tweeted a rather cryptic message when they split – “A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: People change and forget to tell each other. -Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984).” The couple went on to also receive “Best Chemistry” win at the People’s Choice Awards in L.A, after the split where they openly joked about their breakup. Here’s an article from “E Online” of that conversation.
However, all is well with the co-stars offline, despite Ian Somerhalder marrying Nikki Reed – famous for her vampire role as Rosalie Hale in the ‘Twilight Saga’.
What’s in store for the Salvatore brothers?
When ‘The Vampire Diaries’ was launched, the world quickly split into Team Stefan vs Team Damon. But, after all these years, it looks like the duo still share their sibling love – and we don’t mean on another show.
In 2007, Ian Somerhalder shared some sibling PDA with this tweet. He then went on the Kelly Clarkson show where he teased that they soon could be sharing some high spirits inspired by ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Nope! it has nothing to do with vampires or blood, but the love for whiskey that the on-screen brothers shared.
Ian took to tweeting, “Twitterverse Meet Brother’s Bond Bourbon. Please go to http://BrothersBondBourbon.com To sign up! We can’t wait to share this with you!”.
Paul Wesley also flaunted a picture taken by Ian’s wife Nikki Reed on Instagram of the two heartthrobs raising their glasses.
