With as less as six episodes, ‘Good Omens’ gave Amazon Prime Video’s audience an extraordinary experience of a parallel world, inspired by the Bible, where angels and demons pulled humanity in a tug of war between good and evil.
Those who have watched and loved the show will not hesitate to admit that it was hard not to fall for the unique storytelling approach, or for the delightful, odd-couple friendship between Crowley (David Tennant) and Aziraphale’s (Michael Sheen). The pressing question that, however, remains on everyone’s mind is whether ‘Good Omens’ will return for a second season or not?

Here’s what we know so far.
Everything about the show
‘Good Omens’, an American television miniseries created and written by Neil Gaiman, is an adaption of the 1990 short novel written by world-renowned authors late Sir Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman. Pratchett, who passed away in 2015, was not able to see the work being reproduced for television.
The show, which first released on Amazon Prime Videos on May 31, 2019, and BBC Two in the UK on January 15, 2020, garnered great responses and positive feedback from fans and critics alike.
Surprisingly, despite receiving grave responses, ‘Good Omen’ is just 6 episodes long as of yet.
In the six episodes, ‘Good Omens’ tells the story of a time in 2018 when humanity is fearing the end of the world. At this very moment, enters an angel and a demon played by David Tennant and Michael Sheen respectively. And the representatives of heaven and hell both want to stop the apocalypse in any way possible.
Cast of ‘Good Omens’
Neil Gaiman’s drama features David Tennant in the role of Crowley, a flame-haired demon who has lived on earth ever since the dawn of creation. During his time on the planet, Crowley realizes the pleasures of human society and feels that hell could learn a lot from humans.
While Michael Sheen plays Crowley’s angelic counterpart called Aziraphale who, just like Crowley, has spent thousands of years on the planet as heaven’s representative and has now come to like the human world.
Besides the lead roles, the drama has an impressive ensemble of cast including the likes of Jon Hamm, Jack Whitehall, Frances McDormand, Derek Jacobi, Mark Gatiss, Nick Offerman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Anna Maxwell Martin, and Reece Shearsmith in prominent roles.
Is a second season on the cards?
In a conversation with entertainment portal “Digital Spy”, Neil Gaiman spoke about the possibility of bringing the show back and hinted that he hasn’t yet closed the door on more ‘Good Omens’.
“I don’t feel like it’s done and dusted … You know, Terry [Pratchett] and I had plotted a whole other storyline … That would have been the second novel.”
Gaiman further explained that the problem is that doing the second novel immediately after the first, or doing that second storyline immediately after the first had one problem. They’re just too similar, which would mean that if creators went ahead with it, they’d have to do three seasons.
“I’d have to do another two seasons, rather than just one. It’s rather daunting. I have novels to write, and so forth”.
Nevertheless, the creator lifted up the spirits of hopeful fans by adding that despite all the challenges in the way, it’s not a ‘never say never again’ situation’ as everybody would love more of ‘Good Omens’.
“And I am the problem, because there’s only 24 hours in a day, and I have a 4-year-old”, He reasoned.
As the possibility of ‘Good Omens’ returning anytime soon looks up in the air, fans can always fall back on watching the first season laden with Crowley-Aziraphale goodness. The six-episode short show is available to stream anytime on Amazon Prime Video.
