Animated movies are taking over the world for good. And after the massive success of its 2000 prequel, Chicken Run 2 is coming to town!
Animated movie, Chicken Run, was such a global success that now the makers, Aardman Animations, are coming with phase 2. The first movie came in the century year 2000 and the freedom hungry hens took over the box office. The movie was so likable that it grossed $225 million!
Almost two decades after Chicken Run 2 is finally (officially) in pre-production
While the talks about the second installment were going on for some time, it took over an year for this piece of news to make it to the fans. It was in April 2018 that Aardman Animations announced their plan of putting the hens back on the silver screen.
Aardman is bringing back the Chickens
Aardman’s latest film, ‘Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon’ will hit the cinemas this week. So, it makes perfect sense that they are picking Chicken Run 2 now that they have their hands free. The studio is banking on Shaun the Sheep’s success.
Aardman Animation’s 2018 movie, Early Man bagged critics’ positive reviews. Yet it did not succeed in leaving an impression on the audiences. It could only gross $54 million while the budget was $50 million. So, it seems the animation studio is playing it safe as it goes back two decades to their biggest hit: Chicken Run. Smart move, we’d say.
Will Becher who is co-director at Aardman Animations confirmed that Chicken Run 2 is now in production. “Well, all I can tell you is that there were a lot of chickens being made towards the end of our film (Farmageddon). We have a model-making team and, at one point, it was just full of sheep, but slowly over the course of the following weeks it became overrun with chickens. So there is definitely an intention there and it was announced they are in pre-production on a sequel.”
Back to the Island
Though it has gone under production, there is little information on how Chicken Run 2 will look. The previous installment ended with all the chickens escaping and living in a community on an island. So, that’s where the story will start: On the chicken island.
Well, only time will tell if Chicken Run 2 will live up to our hopes. Well, we do hope that it surpasses all expectations. We will get to see the movie in 2020. Are you excited for a second run? Share with us!
