- Why did Chuck Lorre fire Charlie Sheen?

- Lisa Kudrow, Christian Bale were also fired from these roles
The show had a catchy premise and might have been escapist television for its fans, but it’s full of controversy. After Lorre fired Charlie Sheen for his explicit comments, he was replaced by Ashton Kutcher in no time! But he wasn’t the first actor to be fired from television during its primetime.
Keep reading to discover why Lorre fired Charlie Sheen, and how notable actors like Lisa Kudrow and Christian Bale are not averse to the same experience.
Why did Chuck Lorre fire Charlie Sheen?
When ‘Two and A Half Men’ was premiering, Charlie Sheen was one of the highest-paid actors in the country. So, how exactly did he manage to get himself fired? As it is, the actor wasn’t fired overnight. Sheen was incessantly failing to continue his drug rehabilitation program and had already caused several production schedule delays.
He went on to make “inflammatory comments” about Chuck Lorre and repeatedly defaulted on his contract. The producers of the show justified their reason to terminate Sheen’s contract in a lengthy letter to his lawyers. The actor was described as a sick, self-destructive addict whose health, both mental and physical, were constantly deteriorating. Sheen had also admitted to using cocaine, and this news didn’t bode well with the producers of the show.
It also didn’t help that Sheen went on to make comments about the show, calling the decision “very good news”. Sheen was fired and replaced by Ashton Kutcher, but in the form of a new character, Walden Schmidt.
Like Sheen, Shannen Doherty was fired from 90210 for bad behaviour
‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ is easily one of the most popular teen dramas to have ever been made. It was a massive success for The CW and paved the way for the teen dramas that came after its time. The show followed the lives of a group of friends living in an upscale community of Beverly Hills, California. The primary focus of the show relies on the friends’ transition from high school to college, and then the adult world.
Starring Tori Spelling, Jennie Garth, Shannen Doherty, and others, the show hasn’t been averse to controversies of its own. In an October 2015 interview with “US Magazine”, Tori Spelling (whose father produced the show) made some shocking revelations. Spelling discussed Shannen Doherty’s difficult behaviour and claimed it was the reason behind the actress being fired from the show.
Spelling also mentioned that there had been a physical fight involving Jennie Garth, which was the last straw in their decision. “It was a fistfight”, confessed Spelling, who then asked her father, Aaron Spelling, to fire Doherty.
Lisa Kudrow, Christian Bale were also fired from these roles
Before Lisa Kudrow was our friend Phoebe Buffay, she had the opportunity of a lifetime as Roz Doyle in ‘Frasier’. She was fired and replaced by Peri Gilpin after the pilot episode itself. The producers loved the quirkiness that Kudrow brought to the character, but after several rehearsals realised that she didn’t embody Roz.
Just then, Lisa Kudrow bounced back with an even bigger role! She was fired from ‘Frasier’ but landed the iconic role of Phoebe in ‘Friends’, which is a global phenomenon today. Her character is remembered for her eccentric traits and will make a comeback in the HBO Max reunion of the show!
Christian Bale, a talented actor and an Academy Award recipient was fired, replaced, and rehired for the 2000 film “American Psycho”.
The hiring process was lengthy, and Bale was replaced by Leonardo DiCaprio but continued to prepare for the role. He kept training at the gym (a part of the deal to play the role) and eventually, the studio ended up re-hiring him!
Although Kudrow and Bale were replaced for very different reasons, Charlie Sheen is certainly not the first to have been fired. Actors like Megan Fox, Selma Blair, and Ryan Gosling have also been fired from several projects!
