Captain Marvel 2 is moving forward and here’s how we know
There has been an ongoing bad blood between Marvel fans and Captain Marvel actress Brie Larson. Amidst this, her first Marvel standalone movie grossed a billion dollars. This put the project in the list of top-grossing Marvel movies. Despite many petitions asking Brie Larson to step down as Captain Marvel, here she is standing strong and tall, getting ready for her sequel movie. While she had already sealed her future in Marvel with her persistence, a piece of recent news confirmed her spot in Phase 5.
Meet the Warbird
Thomas Polito of Geeks WorldWide tweeted, “It should come as no surprise, but Marvel filed the LLC “Warbird Productions II” on February 13th, which means Captain Marvel 2 is officially greenlit.”
(But what in the Marvel World is Warbird?!)
The Marvel Studios file LLCs as they prepare for new productions. When they were preparing for the first Captain Marvel movie, the name in its production column was Warbird Productions. Hence, a Captain Marvel 2 movie would clearly go under Warbird Productions II.
Before the 1990s, Carol Danver’s character was not named Captain Marvel. Instead, she was known as Warbird. The production name is an interesting and direct reference to her past. As a tribute to her previous superhero name, Warbird, we believe that the upcoming Marvel Phase 5 movie might have flashbacks from her past.
Captain Marvel 2 Release Date, Plot
The much-awaited movie is “hoping to find a female filmmaker”. Some speculations even claim that Brie Larson might step into the role of Captain Marvel’s director. Well, speculations aside, we will definitely see Brie Larson in her Captain Marvel suit for the sequel. But it might be a long while before she fights bad guys on the big screen.
The movie in question is a part of Marvel Phase 5. That directly implies it will not be before 2022 that the movie hits the silver screen. In fact, Captain Marvel 2 release date is rumoured to be 29 July 2022.
But what about the movie’s storyline? A few things are very clear. We know that Brie Larson will be returning as Carol Danvers. There is a good chance that we also see her friend, Maria Rambeau. We can also expect to see Maria’s daughter, Monica Rambeau (who will take on Captain Marvel’s mantle sometime in the future) and Ms. Marvel.
Apart from that, the movie will take place in the present day in sync with the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline— that means the story will be set after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’. The highlight of the movie will be Carol Danvers’ lesbian romance. Read all about it here— Captain Marvel, first LGBTQ superhero at MCU?
The X Factor
A major speculation/theory that is doing the rounds and turning many heads claims that Captain Marvel 2 might have a villain from the X-Men world. (Well, it is time that Marvel Studios mixed the two worlds). According to this rumour, Kevin Feige is preparing an X-Men character to be a villain in the 2022 movie.
Brie Larson’s MCU Future
Ever since she was cast as Captain Marvel, fans haven’t liked Brie Larson as much as expected. In fact, there have been petitions asking to replace Brie Larson. This resistance increased multi-folds as 2020 seeped in. Now, it is now confirmed that the actress is surely coming for Captain Marvel 2.
But will Brie Larson sustain in the MCU after this Phase 5 movie? What do you think? Share with us in the comments section below.
