First time when Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir – Not Avengers Endgame.
Fans might argue that Avengers Endgame’s final battle was the first time when Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir. But let us surprise you by saying that it wasn’t the first time for Steve to prove himself be worthy of that insanely heavy hammer.
And it was neither Infinity War nor Avengers Age of Ultron. Indeed, Steve tried to lift the hammer in Age of Ultron, and he possibly could have lifted it, but he didn’t or couldn’t. But Captain America had lifted Mjolnir far before any of these events. Don’t wonder about every scene you could think of him being near to that godly hammer, we’ll tell you exactly.
The Mighty Thor #390 – Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir for the first time.
Yes, this happened in Marvel comics long before Steve ever came to know about Thor in MCU. The first time Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir was in The Mighty Thor #390 comic released in April of 1988. Though at the time Steve wasn’t “Captain America”, he was out with the name of “The Captain” and a costume that was black-red. He gave up the name and shield due to a disagreement with authorities.

In The Mighty Thor, when Thor returns to the Earth, he finds out everything that has changed with Avengers and Captain America. And when some Egyptian Deities attacked Earth, Thor teamed up with The Captain aka Steve Rogers.
At the time when the other Egyptian Gods were trashing down Thor, Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir for the first time. He didn’t fight with it but simply handed it over to Thor. Thor was stunned and realized that Cap was worthy.
Captain America lifted Mjolnir various times before Endgame.
Indeed, Endgame was the first instance in MCU when Captain America lifted Thor’s Mjolnir. But in the comics, it happened a couple of times, too infrequently though. Next time it happened long after 1988’s The Mighty Thor. The next time Cap wielded Thor’s Hammer was in “Fear Itself #7” released in 2011.
This was the first time he lifted Mjolnir actually as Captain America. It again happened more controversially in the “Secret Empire” storyline released in 2017. It wasn’t the actual Captain America, but an enemy in disguise, and it wasn’t a real Mjolnir, so, no worries.
