The supposedly last season of Poldark isn’t “the last season”, according to the makers. Poldark is finally returning with season 6. Here’s to the massive campaigning by Poldarkians. Yes, it is happening!
- Why is Poldark so ridiculously unavoidable?
- Spoiler Alert! When season 5 finale took a hilariously unexpected turn!
- Will the series reopen for Poldark season 6? Yes, of course!
Season 5th finale episode took Poldark on a new journey to France. Based on Winston Graham novels, the series pulled the curtains down without finishing the novels’ story leaving us in dark. There are innumerable questions left to be answered which makes Poldark’s return on season 6 inevitable.
Why is Poldark so ridiculously unavoidable?
Set in the late 1700s, Ross Poldark returns to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolution. All these years, he is assumed dead at home. His childhood sweetheart, Elizabeth is now engaged to his cousin. His father is dead and his property is in ruins.
Ross struggles to make his land productive and win his love back or learn to live without her. Then he meets a young woman called Demelza Carne. He saves her life in a dog fight, hires her as a scullery maid, falls in love and eventually marries her, thus finding a reason to live without Elizabeth.
Poldark, sometimes dealing with history issues and mostly dealing with love makes for an ultimate comfort Television. Based on Winston Graham’s novels, one can’t boast that it has literary merit. But if you are a Downton Abbey fan and Mr. Darcy still makes you go week at the knees, you won’t be able to take your eyes off this impossibly handsome Poldark (Aidan Turner).
Filled with romantic twists and steamy bedroom scenes, the show is a little history and high doses of romantic drama. Even with a hilariously predictable plot, one can’t get enough of Poldark’s intense dark eyes. This old fashioned romantic is a pure delight, any Jane Austen’s fan can’t afford to miss.

Spoiler Alert! When season 5 finale took a hilariously unexpected turn!
In the last ever episode- supposedly- Demelza knows Poldark is up to something and in a heartbreaking moment confronts him,
“When did I lose you, Ross? I look in your face and see a stranger.”
He couldn’t confess to her that he has infiltrated the enemy French gang and is double-crossing them. On the other side, the arch-rival George Warleggan was delighted that Ross appears to be betraying his country.
There followed a sequence where Toussaint (who now knows that Ross is double-crossing them) said to Demelza,
“Forgive me if your carpet is stained, madam, but I must perform a small execution before we resume our conversation.”
Demelza, at her wittiest best, pretended to side with the Frenchman and standing between her husband and Toussaint, said,
“Can you truly think to rid me of this fiend?” and saves her husband’s life by buying some time (Thanks to her, in few moments later, Poldark will ultimately be saved by an unexpected person, leaving us in turmoil)
For some inexplicable reasons, Toussaint decided not to shoot Ross and have a dramatic duel instead.
And then appeared Poldark’s arch-enemy George, blazing guns and going all Tarantino. Instead of taking his revenge on Poldark, he shot Toussaint. This unexpected change of heart of George caught Poldark’s fans off-guard and twitter had its day.
One excited fan gushed: “What did I say. I said I wanted Ross and George teaming up as reluctant allies. And I got them and I’m so happy.”
After this moment, fans want to see more of foe turned ally, George, smirking and smiling on Poldark season 6.
Will the series reopen for Poldark season 6? Yes, of course!
Though the makers announced the 5th season as the last season, they haven’t ruled out a return. There are still many more Winston Graham’s novels to be explored which may happen in the years to come. Season 5 left us with a lot of unanswered questions that can only be answered in Poldark season 6. Let’s not assume him gone forever, for he will come back like he did in season 1, to sweep off your feet on Poldark season 6.
Moreover, Poldark must return for season 6 as he promised to Demelza, in the last farewell scene, “I swear to you, my love, I will return.” It is a hoping that Poldark season 6 happens sooner than later.
