Brie Larson and Captain Marvel should be worried about Chris Evans’ return as Captain America in the MCU
The fandom has lost its cool as the news breaks about Chris Evans dusting off his Captain America suit for one more appearance in the MCU! The news isn’t a rumour or fan fiction it is reported by trade magazine Deadline. If indeed true, there couldn’t be a better start of 2021 for Marvel Fans. Evans played titular role of Captain America since 2011 to 2019 till Avengers: Endgame.
Citing sources Deadline reports, “Still vague if deal as completely closed but insiders say its headed in that direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film.” Further, the report mentions it won’t be for a standalone Captain America installment but for a role much like Robert Downey Jr in Homecoming or Civil War.
Chris Evans’ Back To Marvel
Chris Evans played Steve Rogers throughout the Infinity Saga. He led the Avengers in the final battle against Thanos and then returned each infinity stone back to its original timeline only to find Peggy and have that dance. While his peers like Iron Man and Black Widow bid the farewell to the MCU with their characters dead, Cap was turned into old man Rogers. At the culmination of saga, we saw an old Steve Rogers handing over the shield to Sam Wilson aka Falcon.
The Captain America legacy continues Disney+ with the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series. Chris Evans had publicly stated during the promotions of Endgame that he has hung the suit and shield and is satisfied with the Captain America’s character arch.
Watch: Chris Evans Returns as Captain America!
Nonetheless, Evans’ return as Captain America even in a mentor role would be fitting. There are couple of ways Marvel Studio can pull it off. One is via Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness, the movie is currently shooting and bringing back Steve from a separate timeline will not hurt the original MCU continuity.
The upcoming Loki series can be a good way as well with the Time Variance Authority involved. Perhaps, Loki can bring in some version of Cap on-screen. However, it looks difficult that Evans and Feige would want him to portray an alternate version of fan favourite Steve Rogers.
What Does Chris Evans’ Return Mean?
While the ink on the contract is yet to dry, the two future appearances by Evans can shape the future of the MCU. Even in a mentor role he’d be quite significant, projects like Nick Fury’s series, Secret Wars, FTWS, opens many ways the power dynamics will shift in the future.

The presence of the OG Avenger can be felt in the Young Avengers or Secret Wars storyline. Who knows the Captain America we might see alongside Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel might be a Skrull all the while? There are huge gaps in the ranks of the Avengers since the Infinity Saga, and these are big shoes o fill. Marvel Studios would always want to keep talent like Evans around to lead the projects or to bring star power to them.
The future MCU phases are to introduce new characters. With Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson culminating their roles for good. Chadwick Boseman’s untimely demise there is a huge gap in MCU leadership. The shoes are too big to be even filled by Brie Larson’s one movie limited Captain Marvel arch. It’s good for the studio to fall back on an OG like Evans. So, all the Marvel Captain’s be warned for when Captain America is back!
