Producers give in to the petitions of the people and bring a woman of colour on board as Captain Marvel in Captain Marvel 2. So Will Brie Larson not play Captain Marvel anymore in Captain Marvel 2?
Are you as Marvel-ous as I am? Do you bank on every single MCU production to shoot through the box office and bring your imagination to a world that has no limits? Well, then you’re just as Marvel-ous. This makes me come to the much anticipated second part of Captain Marvel. The first one didn’t quite do as expected.
Dividing the marvel fandom into the lovers and haters of the movies, Captain Marvel has been a subject of massive controversies. Marvel fans have been wanting to get Brie Larson to step down from the role of Captain Marvel in Part 2.
Pining on a woman of colour
Captain Marvel is a woman of colour in the comic version of the movie. The fans have started a petition titled “Demand Captain Marvel is Played By a Woman of Colour, Not Brie Larson!” on ThePetitionSite for her to step down in order to prove herself as an ally of social justice.
The petition reportedly states that the role should be taken up by Monica, the original female & BLACK Captain Marvel instead of white-washing characters for the benefit of the straight, white men running Disney. While this has taken a controversial turn, it kind of makes sense, doesn’t it? The actress has been trolled in the past for not smiling much either. Well, that’s a bit extreme.
Who would make the perfect Captain?
If the producers were to really replace the actor, who do you think would have made an excellent choice? One person of colour that comes to my mind as perfect for the role of a strong warrior is Nathalie Emmanuel. This would, in turn, be on par with the comic version of the movie too. Don’t know who she is? Known across the globe for her role of Missandei in Game Of Thrones, Nathalie has proved her proficiency as an actor. Rings a bell? Damn right.
She’s who I would love to see in the character. What about you? Comment below.
