The moment Captain Marvel crashed through the roof of a building and the camera focused on “Blockbuster Videos”, we knew we were in for a treat. All the 90s music and vibe set the mood for what was going to come. Captain Marvel 2 was a massive hit being one of the highest grossing Marvel Cinematic Universe’s productions.
We were introduced to the mightiest of superheros and we cannot complain. After all, it was even more than that. The MCUs first ever women centric superhero movie, Captain Marvel had us travel back in time where it all began – the Avengers Initiative.
The Sequel will have more and then some.
Captain Marvel 2 is in the works and it is safe to say that things are going to get really interesting. The comic version and the movie version are a little different from each other. However, the fandom expects the major characters to come back in the sequel. Captain Marvel 2 will hit the screens sometime in 2022.
Farewell to Maria Rambeau
Maria Rambeau is the best friend of Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel. Captain Marvel shows Maria and her daughter Monica Rambeau as two of the most significant characters in the movie.
However, if the sequel is set in the present time, it would be best to say goodbye to Maria Rambeau. She may be older or completely gone because of the infamous snap of Thanos. As opposed to the comic version where Monica Rambeau is the second Captain Marvel, with Carol Danvers later in line, the movie is keen on showing Monica has Carol’s best friend’s daughter.
Cut to the present time, it is highly likely that Monica would be taking the role of Photon in the MCU.

Going back in time
After the battle has been won against the Krees, Captain Marvel says goodbye to Maria, Monica, and Fury. Monica idolizes Carol and thus, wants to be like her. Here comes the biggest hint – Nick Fury tells Monica that she would “one day learn to glow like aunt Carol”.
Say what?
If that isn’t a hint big enough to believe that Monica will be older and a superhero in the upcoming sequel, I don’t know what is. Monica, like the comic book version, will probably possess the superpower to manipulate energies and wield their power on an electromagnetic spectrum.
The war is still on
Now that Maria won’t be there in the sequel, Carol aka Captain Marvel will be fighting alongside Monica aka Photon against the Krees as per my theory. Of course, the war is still on and we can only anticipate what is going to happen. I am hoping for Talos’ help against the invasion of Krees. Aren’t you?
