You might want to thank Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige for rejecting Brie Larson a bunch of times before picking her up for Captain Marvel.
More often than you know, A-list celebrities audition and get rejected from big films and franchises. It’s rarely revealed, but when some star opens about all the rejections they faced, you wonder what the casting director was possibly looking for. Brie Larson, who we now know as Captain Marvel, had to suffer through the same fate, that too with the Marvel universe.

- What were the roles she auditioned for?
Recently, in a video on her YouTube channed, Brie Larson revealed that she had previously auditioned for several roles in two phases with MCU, but rejected.
Brie Larson and the Marvel world
Brie Larson was not necessarily hailed by the entire Marvel fanbase for her portrayal. But the criticism was much influenced by the flaws in the movie rather than the portrayal.
Though Brie Larson had a long film career behind her, she rose to become a household name with her Oscar-winning performance in Room (2015). Yet, even after the Academy-Award fame, there was a gap in reach with the international mass, which later she achieved with her role of Captain Marvel.
However, as we now move towards another phase in MCU after the death of Iron Man, aka Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), and the retirement of Captain America, aka Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), in Avengers Endgame, her role assumes importance.
The Marvel movies Brie auditioned for
The Brie Larson that we all now know as Captain Marvel, was probably always destined to be Carol Danvers.
But, in the very latest YouTube video titled “Audition Storytime! (pt. 2)” on Brie Larson’s YouTube channel, she has talked about some heartbreaking rejections in her career. In the video, she even listed two of the Marvel movies she auditioned for but wasn’t selected.
Before you begin guessing what they are, let us tell you. They were Iron Man 2, and Thor.
Yes, it does get unbelievable at this point when you really think that the actress now leading the Avengers was rejected for some supporting role in Iron Man 2 and Thor. The other movies and shows Brie mentioned included Avatar, Transformers, and even The Big Bang Theory.
What were the roles?
Though losing out on Iron Man 2 and Thor should really not feel like a loss to Brie Larson now, since now she’s Captain Marvel, we wonder what roles she did audition for back in 2009-2010. In the video, Brie didn’t mention them, but as guessed by Cinema Blend, we thik they could have been Black Widow and Jane.
The only female character introduced in Iron Man 2 was of Black Widow, aka Agent Natasha Romanoff. The role was brilliantly portrayed by Scarlett Johansson. We wonder what the character would have looked like if Brie, instead of Johansson, played her.
Unlike Iron Man 2, Thor had several female characters that Brie might have auditioned for. The character of Thor’s love interest Jane was mastered by Natalie Portman. And the other characters like Lady Sif (Jaimie Alexander) or even Darcy (Kat Dennings) could have been on Brie’s radar back then.
Regardless of what she could have played, it was her destiny to be the best among all in MCU. Thus, Brie Larson became Captain Marvel.
