Fans like it or not, but it’s about time Marvel is going to bring in the lesbian characters to empower the LGBTQ community. The first step in MCU can be Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel 2.
Captain Marvel was released on March 8, 2019, and since then, it had landed in several controversies. A section of fans didn’t like Brie Larson’s version of Captain Marvel, and many didn’t even like the movie. As a result, even after munching over a billion at box-office, the movie scored only 6.9/10 on IMDB and 78% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Recently, the fans of MCU initiated a petition that asked Disney to remove Brie Larson from her role of Captain Marvel 2. This came after Brie Larson’s stand on several issues including her controversial remark on the pay difference between female actors and male actors.
Despite all the controversies, Marvel has decided to risk Captain Marvel and MCU. Brie Larson’s version of Captain Marvel might be shown as lesbian in MCU’s Captain Marvel 2. Marvel will be running huge risk with this decision as it can unfold in any direction.

Till now, Marvel have been successful in diversifying MCU. From humans to aliens; from male superheroes to the most powerful female superheroes; from raccoon to a tree, and with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther, it filled another void.

As the MCU is going to expand further in Phase 4, Disney is planning on going more colourful with the inclusion of Asian superheroes as well. But MCU is still lacking some colours to complete it’s rainbow. Recently there has been some objections regarding the absence of any Lesbian superhero character in MCU.
It seems like Disney is going to fulfill the wish of LGBTQ community this time. Rumours are hinting towards the possibility of MCU having it’s first Lesbian superhero in form of Brie Larson aka Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2.
Captain Marvel to have a girlfriend in Captain Marvel 2?
The speculations first begin right after the release of Captain Marvel in 2019. Even after being the origin story for Carol Danvers, there was no romance in the air for Carol. This brought many questions on forefront regarding Carol’s sexual interests. As fans got more and more interested in discovering the secret, the directors of Captain Marvel, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, answered in an interview with ComicBookMovie.com.

They said:
“That was one of those things when we were in the writing stage, and the sky was the limit and the movie could be anything, we were discussing: ‘Are we going to get into any type of romantic relationship with this character?’ It wasn’t like there was a philosophical opposition to pursuing that storyline; it just came down to real estate in the story we were telling. We knew we were telling a story of self discovery and we wanted friendship, and her friendship with Maria, to be a huge part of that.”
“There was no room for any romantic storyline for us. I know people have made their own conclusions about that and I think that’s part of the fun of making these movies is that they become the audience’s movies and they get to create any kind of narrative they want for what’s happening off the screen. For us, as storytellers, it’s a friendship and a story about that and self discovery.”
Brie Larson advocates the idea of Lesbian Captain Marvel.
Though these might only seem speculations, but they are not. The creators have been considering the idea of making Brie Larson’s characters Lesbian in Captain Marvel 2. Last year, Marvel Studio’s EP wrote on her Reddit AMA while answering to a fan.
She wrote: “Carol could eventually have a love story with someone of the same sex. I think it would be something incredible on the part of the MCU.”
Brie Larson too expressed her views on adding a Lesbian character in MCU. In an interview to Variety last year, Brie Larson stated that we need to move “faster” in terms of bringing such diversity in movies.
She said: “I’m happy to be on the forefront of the normalization of this type of content and to prove once again that representation matters. Diverse storytelling matters, the female experience matters, and these are markers,” she continued while stating, “So it’s something I’ve always known and I think a lot of people always knew, but this is just normalizing. I don’t understand how you could think that a certain type of person isn’t allowed to be a superhero. So to me it’s like, we gotta move faster. But I’m always wanting to move faster with this stuff.”
There’s no confirmation yet on Marvel planning to make Brie Larson’s character Lesbian in Captain Marvel 2. But the sources close to Disney have reported that makers are considering it strongly.
