‘Bridgerton’: A regency romance that keeps you hooked!
Season 1 of ‘Bridgerton’ chronicled the romance between Daphne Bridgeton (Phoebe Dynevor), the oldest daughter of the Bridgerton household and Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page), Duke of Hastings, one of London’s most eligible bachelors, surrounded by scandals, as reported by the mysterious Lady Whistledown, the author of a controversial society newsletter. Set in 1813, it was mainly based on the first book in the series called “The Duke and I” (2000) but also included elements and characters from subsequent books.
The series has received acclaim for its set design, costumes, cinematography, and captivating story. As of today, the show is the fifth most-watched series on Netflix with around 63 million households having viewed it within a month of its premiere.
Raging popularity and associated controversies
The series gained exceptional popularity on its arrival on Netflix which clearly translated in its ratings as well. But it did become a subject of multiple controversies. The scene in which Daphne manipulated Simon into impregnating her without his consent attracted flack from viewers everywhere. It has been referred to as a rape scene by people everywhere. ‘Bridgerton’s’ take on race has also been heavily criticized despite being a show about escapism and fantasies.

Also, its rather detailed sex scenes have become a centre of attention now. Fans of the show cannot help but relate it to some very creative sex scenes and the smoking chemistry between the two leads.
Season 2: What will we get to see?
Season 2 will most likely be based on book 2 of the series titled, “The Viscount Who Loved Me” (2000), but may also have elements from subsequent books. According to the book, the focus of season 2 will be on Lord Anthony Bridgerton, Daphne’s elder brother. Actor Jonathan Bailey who plays the character has said in a recent interview,
“It’s just going to get more exciting and convoluted and sexier; I think. The series will be pushing boundaries every single way … So, the fact that we’re following Anthony’s pursuit for love shows that you know there’s definitely going to be some similarities. Having read the second book, if Anthony gets to meet anyone half as brilliant as Kate Sheffield is, then he’s going to be a very lucky man”.
However, the upcoming season will be about a lot more than just Anthony. Bailey confirmed this saying,
“There are so many cliffhangers. Eloise will be having her first season, I’m sure. There’s head over heart with Benedict and his love of art. And there’s a lot to, I think, really explore with Violet and Colin and Penelope. There’s so much!”
Well, we can hardly wait to see what season 2 has in store for us and are looking forward to a lot more revelations, drama and stairwell sex!
