CW is ready to reboot Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. But who is the new Buffy? Find more about it here.
In 2018, CW teased fans about reviving 1997’s popular supernatural teen drama Buffy: The Vampire Slayer. We think we know who might be the perfect for new Buffy.
Highlights:
- Why we need a new Buffy?
- Buffy: The Vampire Slayer reboot plot
- Blake Lively as new Buffy
Buffy: The Vampire Slayer is the first-of-its-kind fantasy supernatural drama that debuted in 1997. As the name suggests, it’s the story of the Buffy Summers, an 18-years-old vampire slayer, the “Chosen One”, from Sunnydale.
Although in the beginning, producers and CW didn’t have much faith in the show, worried that it would not do so well in the ‘sitcom’ era, Buffy: The Vampire Slayer charmed the audience enough to last seven seasons without any hiccup. Now, as this classic is ready to make a comeback with a reboot, writer and executive producer Monica Owusu-Breen is having a hard time finding a new Buffy.
Why do we need a new Buffy?
In the original series, Buffy Summers was played by Sarah Michelle Gellar. Her career skyrocketed with Buffy.

She fights and slays vampires, demons, and monsters to save Sunnydale with her Scooby Gang. However, she decided to quit after her marriage with Freddie Prinze Jr, as she claimed her career had become all-consuming and it was becoming hard to find a work-life balance. The show ended in 2003.
Now 17 years later, she is a successful food company owner and is not willing to come back on screen as Buffy anymore. In her interview with The Wrap, Gellar said, “I think that it’s a great story and happy that it’s ready to be retold. But, I’ve told my story already.”

Buffy: The Vampire Slayer reboot plot
As the rumour mill goes, the reboot might see a time-jump – with Buffy in her late 40s, a leader. Though writer Monica Owusu-Breen has not yet confirmed anything on the plot, chances are the reboot will be about the comic series by Dark Horse. In 2007, Buffy’s adventures continued in comic form and it seems there is enough content to last the reboot for 5 seasons already.
According to the comic, Buffy has now made Scotland as her base, where she trains squads and gears them up for missions all over the world from a castle with her gang Giles, Andrew, Xander, Willow, and Faith. She is also the leader of almost two thousand slayers worldwide.
Blake Lively as the new Buffy?

Yes, Gossip Girl’s Serena Van Der Woodsen, Blake Lively. Not only is her appearance similar to Sarah Michelle Gellar, Blake Lively is also perfect for the role.
