With so much to process, Marvel fans got stuck at one thing, and are still stuck at it – does Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow really returns to MCU with the Disney+ series ‘Loki’? Mind you, we are not making this up. With a split second of appearance in the trailer, Black Widow has taken the whole Internet space by surprise. But let us hold our realities, and decrypt what it is actually.

- ‘Loki’s’ timeline and Black Widow’s appearance
- Black Widow and Loki post ‘Endgame’?
While the world is confused, we are pretty sure it is Black Widow in the trailer of Marvel’s ‘Loki’.
Is it really Black Widow in the trailer of Marvel’s ‘Loki’?
Yes! No? Well, maybe! Don’t trust us? Go and check out for yourself and look really close to catch her glimpse. On 11th December 2020, the Investors Day, Marvel dropped several new trailers and updates regarding its new shows on Disney+. A new trailer for the Scarlet Witch and Vision show ‘WandaVision’; a first proper look at ‘The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’; a breathtaking introduction to the possibilities of ‘What if?’; a magnificent, face-melting few minutes of Tom Hiddleston, in and as ‘Loki’.

They also updated us on several new shows including ‘Ms. Marvel’, ‘I am Groot’, ‘Iron Heart’, and many others. However, exactly 2 minutes into the trailer of ‘Loki’, Marvel fans spotted Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff. The Black Widow like figure sat amid the ruins under drowning light, with her back towards us. This freaked out everybody, and everyone’s trying to figure out if it is her or someone else.
‘Loki’s’ timeline and Natasha’s appearance
What are the possibilities of Black Widow appearing in Marvel and Disney+’s ‘Loki’? Did she return from the dead? While no one is sure if she’s Black Widow and how she returned, there are strong possibilities of Black Widow returning in ‘Loki’. In ‘Avengers Endgame’ Loki escaped from the plotted time heist using Tesseract. To note, the timeline he escaped from was the 2012 timeline of the first Avenger’s battle.
The Loki that escaped just led an alien invasion to the earth, and he was still years away from his character arc of ‘Thor Ragnarok’ and ‘Avenger’s Infinity War’, where he turns into a hero. In the same movie, Loki and Natasha had a not so gentle encounter in the S.H.I.E.L.D carrier. Keeping the nature of “The God of Mischiefs” in mind, Loki wouldn’t forget her so easily, and on any earned opportunity, he would surprise her. For this, however, Loki will have to escape into the same reality and similar timeline.
However, as shown in the trailer, Loki ends up in the Time Variance Authority led by Mr. Mobius M. Mobius. Though we don’t know if it’s the same reality or an alternate reality, he sure spends a good amount of time there. Thus, there is a high probability that Loki would eventually escape into an alternate reality, and we might meet Black Widow there.
If not Black Widow – who else can it be in the trailer of ‘Loki’?
Natasha and Loki post ‘Endgame’?
Another highlight of that split second is the settings. The Black Widow like figure is sitting amid some kind of post-war ruins. Her short hair bathing in the purple ambiance of what feels like Vormir, a planet floating at the center of the universe.
We bid an emotional goodbye to Natasha in ‘Endgame’ on Vormir, where she sacrificed herself for the soul stone. If you remember, Loki also sacrificed himself at the beginning of ‘Infinity War’ to save Thor and Tesseract.
So, the scene may take place after Natasha’s death, where she’s trapped in the soul stone, and so is Loki.
Or, another possibility is that while traveling through alternate realities, the evil Loki ends up in the world of the soul stone, where he finds Natasha.
Whatever might have been the reason behind Black Widow appearing in Marvel and Disney+’s ‘Loki’, we are extremely excited to see her. Also, though nobody is sure if it is Natasha, we don’t see any other familiar figure in the Marvel universe with any reason to be present there with such intensity. So, yes, we are pretty sure it is Black Widow, aka Natasha Romanoff.
