HBO announced ‘True Blood’ reboot
It has been six years since we had last seen our favourite ‘True Blood’ characters taking the screens by a storm. Fans have been waiting patiently for reboot news for all these years. Well, the wait is over! HBO has recently announced that a reboot for ‘True Blood’ is in the early stages of development. The news of the reboot was first reported by “TVLine” and was later confirmed by a “Variety” article. According to the reports, the reboot script is being written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Jami O’Brien, who will also executively produce the show. Along with them, the original creator and showrunner of ‘True Blood’, Alan Ball will also act as the executive producer of the reboot. However, as the news suggests, the original cast might not return. That means Bill and Sookie might not return for the ‘True Blood’ reboot as well.

‘True Blood’ is adapted from the book series “The Southern Vampire Mysteries” by Charlaine Harris. The show premiered in 2008 on the HBO network and had a long seven-season run. Alan Ball acted as the show-runner of the series for 5 seasons and is set to work on the reboot as well. ‘True Blood’ follows a world in which vampires and humans exist together after “True Blood”, a synthetic blood substitute that replaces human blood. The show was a fantasy genre marvel with more than just vampires and included witches, werewolves, evil cults, and, of course, the drama! Although the reboot news has made the fans extremely excited and hopeful, there has been no comment from the HBO reps.
Sookie kills Bill in the ‘True Blood’ finale
While the reports suggesting the non-return of the original cast foretells Bill and Sookie’s absence from the reboot, there’s one more detail that sings along the same tune. According to the ‘True Blood’ series finale, Sookie puts a stake through Bill’s heart sending him off to “True Death”. Bill’s death marked a controversial end to the show, which for some shattered the Bill-and-Sookie-forever dream. Even after a lot of convincing from Sookie and Eric, Bill refused to take the Hep-V vaccine. Moreover, Bill’s last days were hinting at his body turning warm and more human. Sookie was finally being able to read Bill’s thoughts and all of it suggested that Sookie and Bill are meant to have a happy forever.
Naturally, when things don’t work out as we had hoped and Sookie kills Bill, fans were both shocked and devastated. True death for Bill was his final goodbye for Sookie and from the show’s life and there seems like there’s no chance of him returning anymore. Sookie ends up marrying a character unnamed and unheard of, with a mission to start a somewhat normal family, moving away from the supernatural complexities of Bon Temps. So, with Bill dead and Sookie perfectly happy in a world away from Bon Temps, it probably marks the end of their journeys on ‘True Blood’.
Anna Paquin on the possibility of her character’s return
Fans of ‘True Blood’ have reacted quite strongly at the possibility of the original cast not returning for the reboot. Moreover, even if the original cast could return, there will be no story without Bill and Sookie. Even if Sookie could return on some crazy whimsical plotline, bringing Bill back from the dead would be absolute nonsense. A fan wrote on “Twitter”,
“Ugh!!! It better be a sequel and not a reboot! I can’t imagine anything pissing off Bill more than resurrecting him! It would be great!!” Another expressed strong opinions about not being interested without the old cast. He said, “No desire to watch. Original cast was too good to recast. I won’t watch”.
Amidst all the yes to the reboot and no to the reboot, Anna Paquin, the actor who played Sookie, broke her silence. She admitted to being completely unaware about the ‘True Blood’ reboot which was concurred by Denis O’Hare, another member of the original cast. Since Sookie isn’t aware of a reboot of ‘True Blood’ being made, there’s no way she would be featured, and Bill will probably remain dead too!
