Now that ‘The Big Bang Theory’ is officially over, chances are that the cast members might be roped in to appear in ‘Young Sheldon’. Basing its premise on one of the main characters from ‘The Big Bang Theory’, ‘Young Sheldon’ follows the story of Sheldon Cooper (played by Iain Armitage), growing up in the late 1980s in Texas and attending high school as a nine-year-old boy.
When will ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 4 release?
‘Young Sheldon’ debuted in CBS back in 2016, and its steep growth in popularity meant that it was quickly renewed for a second and a third season. However, Warner Bros had called for a shutdown on the production of the sitcom following the coronavirus pandemic. So, perhaps ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 4 may make us wait a little longer.
But it is definitely happening, not just because it was officially renewed by the CBS network, but also because the network may feel the need to fill in the slot left by the hugely popular parent series ‘The Big Bang Theory’. It is likely then that the show might expand its range and focus on a multitude of characters like George, Sheldon’s older brother, and Sheldon’s twin sister Missy.
The crossover between ‘Young Sheldon’ and ‘The Big Bang Theory’: A Theory
Since this show is quite literally based off another show, ‘Young Sheldon’ has referred to ‘The Big Bang Theory’ many times. For example, the song “Soft Kitty” has also been featured in ‘Young Sheldon’, and there have been cameos by stars such as Kaley Cuoco.

In fact, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ featured a very unlikely crossover between the two shows. In an episode from the parent show’s final season, a young Sheldon (played by Armitage himself) appears in a VHS tape and inspires older Sheldon to not give up on himself and his idea.
But, what could a crossover between the shows look like in ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 4, now that ‘The Big Bang Theory’ won’t be filming new episodes anymore?
It could be something like the 16th episode of the third season, titled “Pasadena”. In it, young Sheldon goes with his father to a talk by Stephen Hawking. It just so happens that the venue of the talk is at the California Institute of Technology, the very place in which older Sheldon later goes on to conduct research on theoretical physics.
When Sheldon tells his father that he can see himself going to this institute, the camera pans to show that he and his father are standing in the same cafeteria which older Sheldon regularly visits to meet with his friends in ‘The Big Bang Theory’.
With the likelihood of such heart-warming moments in ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 4, it’s not surprising that fans can hardly wait for it to premiere soon! Do you have any crossover theories about season 4 of ‘Young Sheldon’? Let us know in the comments sections below.
