Sneak Peak into ‘Young Howard’
Famous TV shows usually end because of reasons such as the actors have other projects to do, the actors would like to take a break, or the ratings aren’t too great. ‘Friends’, for instance, ended because Jennifer Aniston wanted to take upon all her movie opportunities.
Similarly, ‘The Big Bang Theory‘ ended with a bang because Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki were ready to leave; the rest of the cast was fine with ending the show too.
The chances of producers creating another spin-off for ‘The Big Bang Theory’, specifically, a ‘Young Howard’ spin-off seem to be quiet high. ‘Young Sheldon’ Season 2 ended with a quick peek on the younger versions of Sheldon’s’ future best friend- Leonard, Penny, Raj, Howard, Bernadette, and Amy.
Among all the six kids shown in homage, without a doubt, Howard was the most interesting character. While young Leonard and Raj sat on their desks, Amy read her ‘Little House on the Prairie‘ book, Penny and Bernadette slept, Howard was busy playing video games.
What would ‘Young Howard’ look like?
In the brief appearance, ‘Young Howard’ is shown playing a video game at night, his mother yells for him – like she always has – and his parents were probably still together since he was only 9 years old at the time and his father left him only when he was 11 years old.
This leaves the writers a great opportunity to create something along this storyline. Fans would definitely love to see a lot more of how Howard’s life came around; all the girls he’s been with, his relationship with his mother, his passion for geeky video games, and his career dream of becoming an astronaut.
It is a known fact that ‘The Big Bang Theory’ and ‘Young Sheldon’ have had a lot of plot holes. Mary and Meemaw are very different from each other as is Sheldon’s father- George Cooper Sr.
Larry Barber played very distinct roles in both the series. While he was Sheldon’s father in ‘Young Sheldon’, he was also Leonard’s bully from high school in ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Similar to the difference in character as Meemaw and Mary’s, Sheldon’s father is poles apart: since in TBBT, he has been described as a drunkard and an aggressive man who separates from Sheldon’s mother.
Chuck Lorre will have to be very careful while portraying Howard and his family’s characters well without any similar plot holes that could make the fans question the writers’ ability to follow a perfect story.
However, in my opinion, I don’t think there could be much to miss or portray incorrectly as not much is spoken about Howard’s childhood in TBBT. This being said, the fans would definitely love to see a lot more of his mother and understand her as deeply as fans did with characters from ‘Young Sheldon’.
‘Young Howard’ TV show release date confirmation
While there is no ‘Young Howard’ release date confirmation on the launch of the series, there are speculations that ‘Young Howard’ could be in the making very soon. If everything goes well, the end of ‘Young Sheldon’ could be the beginning of ‘Young Howard’. CBS would not lose its fan base and could possibly rule the small screen again.
