The ‘Gilmore Girls’ clause that could make season 2 happen
Before ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ aired on Amazon, the Palladino duo seemingly signed on a multi-year contract with Amazon Studios in 2017. The Amazon deal claimed that Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino would continue being associated with the Amazon original, ‘The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ as well as develop new content for the platform. With the pact now definitely a thing, fans wondered if it would be possible for the Palladinos to find time to work further on ‘Gilmore Girls’ for Netflix. However, never underestimate the minds of the Palladinos put together.

Apparently, the Palladinos aren’t worried about losing time or opportunity for ‘Gilmore Girls’. Turns out, the duo has already kept a ‘Gilmore Girls’ clause in the Amazon deal. Self-admittedly, they have the ‘Gilmore Girls’ situation “carved out”. If the occasion and the opportunity present themselves, a second installment for the ‘Gilmore Girls’ revival seems likely. However, Amy Sherman-Palladino believes that it has to be a spontaneous thing where they are sitting in an open bar as all of a sudden the right story and its format kicks in and everyone, including our girls in question, are ready to dive in again. However, if there’s one thing that Sherman-Palladino is clear about, it is that if season 2 of the revival were to happen, it would be in a new shape and a new format. Exciting!
Amy Sherman-Palladino on the possibility of future instalments
There’s a fifty-fifty chance of ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ coming back with season 2. While the ending of the revival was kept open-ended, which we agree tends to be very itchy for most of us, for the Palladinos that’s how it was planned. It’s imperfect and a little is left for the imagination. From the conception of the revival’s idea, the Palladinos wanted the story to be focussing on exactly one year in the lives of the Gilmore Girls. That was the plan and that’s what has been done. Naturally, it still seems like it would be jumping the gun to assume that ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life’ will be returning for season 2.
Amy Sherman-Palladino told “Vogue“,
“Well, we just want people to watch these. Some people haven’t seen them yet. This was the story that we wanted to do. We wanted to do this year—a year in the life. So we accomplished what we wanted to do. We didn’t go in there with any intention of wanting to do more. There were no discussions between us and Warners or us and Netflix of having anymore. We all went through this journey thinking we just wanted to make it a very special event. So that really is where we are right now because we’re so tired and exhausted and the kitchen still smells like butter”.
The Palladinos are open to a second season of the revival
There’s no reason to be disheartened yet for the Palladinos are definitely open to doing a season 2 of ‘Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life‘. According to Amy-Sherman Palladino, the revival was not planned initially. The right time and opportunity arrived and it just clicked. Moreover, the creator has admitted to still being in close touch with Lauren Graham, Kelly Bishop, and Alexis Bedel, which means there’s no reason why one shouldn’t dream of a second season for the revival. All that’s needed now is a little push from destiny.
Amy Sherman-Palladino told “The Hollywood Reporter”,
“We are absolutely open to do more”, Sherman-Palladino said. “You know, I talk to Lauren constantly. And we’re very tight with Milo [Ventimiglia], Kelly [Bishop], and Alexis. We’re tight with the Gilmore family. It’s not anything other than we need the right story, the right format, and the right timing … So it’s not about anything other than it was sort of kismet the first time. And I feel like it needs to be kismet if we do it again”.
