Production stopped in the wake of the pandemic
‘Supernatural’ has perhaps provided the most dramatic moments to its viewers for about 15 years now. Sam and Dean engaged head-on with dramatic apocalypses, saving the world from monsters and fighting battles in hell. The Winchester brothers even waged a war against God. Supported by an army of loyal fans and high viewership ratings, it almost felt like the world of ‘Supernatural’ would never close its doors. However, all good things come to an end.

While some fans have agreed that ‘Supernatural’ should drop the curtains while it’s still rolling high, others have demanded more seasons. ‘Supernatural’ was all set to call season 15 its final one, but the show might just continue into season 16. The originally-planned finale had to be brought to a halt due to the coronavirus outbreak. The show still had several episodes to air before production was paused. This brief hiatus, however, might prove beneficial for the fans as it might lead to a brand new season. With 7 episodes left to be aired from season 15, ‘Supernatural’ might continue breathing for another season.

The cast of ‘Supernatural’ confirms adjustments
Last year, in a video, the stars of ‘Supernatural’ said that plans for the show to end were already put in place about three years ago, around season 12. According to “Entertainment Weekly”, actor Jensen Ackles said, “We had been kicking that ball around for probably about three seasons and it was never like ‘We’re done, let’s move on’. It was like, ‘Let’s start planning an exit strategy”. That season 15 would be the final run for the Winchester boys was officially announced by the end of season 14. Actor Jared Padalecki said, “It finally got to a point, ironically, where it was like, ‘I never want to leave this. I could do this until the day I die, and then if I get the choice when I’m dead, I’ll re-up!’ But you never want to be the last person at a party. We just knew. That’s not to say there haven’t been vacillations, but we all trust the decision that was made”.
In a recent conversation over Zoom, the cast hinted at new adjustments having been made on the script. Ackles said, “There have been some adjustments made from the scripts that we were going to shoot in March to the scripts that we’re shooting now. We’ve had to accommodate a pandemic”. That is enough of a hint for us, and for the fans, to hope that season 16 of ‘Supernatural’ to be in play for now.

Is ‘Supernatural’ on the run for season 16?
Truth be told, fans and creators are kind of torn between the possibility of ‘Supernatural’ continuing its run or ending with season 16. While some fans think that it would be dragging the show way out of its tenure, others feel that it might be a fair shot. The global coronavirus attack blew the plans of the ‘Supernatural’ team of calling it a day with season 15, which tempts us to believe that the remaining episodes might be pushed into a separate season. Meanwhile, Ackles had given a hint on what the last of the remaining episodes would feel like. He said, “Episode 19 feels kind of like the season finale for 15, and episode 20 feels like the series finale”.
The cast has paced around the subject of season 15 being the end of the show for a long time. There have been times when they felt that it would be better to leave the show before it turned into “a diet version” of its original charm. Again, there have been times when they “didn’t want it to end”. It all comes down to how the creators are going to handle the rest of the season 15 episodes. Our money is on season 16.
