Although the rumours have been swirling for a while, it is finally confirmed by writer Julian Fellowes that a Downton Abbey sequel is in the works.
Earlier, there were rumours that the British Period Drama Downton Abbey is making a comeback and our 2020 might be saved. Although those were rumours, our COVID-19 Pandemic hit world is definitely saved as those rumours have now become a positive confirmation.
Downton Abbey’s creator Julian Fellowes has finally put the rumours and desperate cry of the ever-growing audience of the successful drama to rest.

Downton Abbey Film: The Sequel
When Downton Abbey was taken off air in 2016, fans were left heartbroken thinking they’ll never get to see the Crawley family and their staff members again. Their wish was granted in the form of a feature length movie released in September 2019 welcoming the Crawley Family back again but this time on the big screen.
Since the film has come out there has been an outcry demanding a sequel to the film as the audience isn’t done with the world of Downton Abbey just yet. And amidst a Pandemic a hope has flickered in the eyes of people again after a sequel’s confirmation was recently announced.
Julian Fellowes the creator of Downton Abbey has admitted that the sequel is very much happening and the work will begin on the film later this year. Given the production deadline we should be expecting Downton Abbey 2 around late 2021 or early 2022.
The Follow-Up To Downton Abbey Part One
The Downton Abbey film saw all character of the show coming together to welcome Royalty at their estate- King George V in 1927. The plot of the stand-alone film mostly then follows the household as they prepare the impending visit.
The conflict in the story is when the staff of the Crawley household is informed that their services won’t be needed as the King travels with his own staff. What ensues is a power struggle and a lot of bickering is followed in the Downton Abbey estate.
The film went on to do very well at the box-office and garnered positive critical reviews. With the success of the first part underway there was no denying that a second Downton Abbey movie would follow suit.

Actor Joanne Froggatt who has played Anna Bates in the British Period Series has said that she would love to star in the sequel of Downton Abbey film.
And if any of you are wondering what can we possibly expect from the Downton Abbey world for a storyline after having 6 seasons and one full feature length movie already released, that is where you’re wrong.
With so many characters, there are only so many more stories to tell and explore. Each character has his or her own charm and history attached to them. And as the audience we will never get tired of exploring these options especially when we’re comfortably watching them unfold on a big screen.
With several cast members already on board, creator Jullian Fellowes confirming a script is underway and eager audience waiting to be welcomed back to the Crawley estate so we can be in the noble presence of our beloved Downton characters, all we can do is wait and hope that Maggie Smith is ready to play our favourite cold, sarcastic Dowager Duchess again.
