It was Keanussance of course, but from his films to the fresh spark in his personal life, 2019 was the platform for Keanu Reeves, because the best of him will come in the years 2020 and 2021.
From John Wick: Parabellum John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum and Toy Story 4 to Cyberpunk 2077 and the iconic appearance at E3, Keanu Reeves has become the global sweetheart he was destined to be. Since the Matrix years, 2019 has been arguably Reeves’ high point. The actor hasn’t just regained the 90s and early 2000s fandom around him but even bettered it.
Heads Up! 2020 and 2021 overshadow 2019’s Keanussance
- Keanu Reeves became a global phenomenon again in 2019
- The gold rush around the golden goose Keanu Reeves
- Bill and Ted, Matrix 4 and John Wick: Chapter 4
- Keanu’s wish of a John Constantine resurrection
- Things are Fast getting Furious with Dwayne Johnson
- The Marvel – DC war to woo Keanu
- Speed-ing up the act with Sandra Bullock
Keanu Reeves was a constant name in frontpage headlines across the world. Then Alexandra Grant happened. Reeves’ age-appropriate romance further solidified his place in the hearts of his fans. But if you think 2019 is the peak of Keanu Reeves’ 4-decade career, you couldn’t be more wrong. In fact, it’s just started. Years 2020 and 2021 has in store a never-before Keanu Reeves experience.
What’s on the Keanu Agenda in 2020?
John Wick becoming a franchise success has made Keanu Reeves bankable again. Consequently, Hollywood producers and directors are flocking to get a piece of the gold rush. Keanu is the golden-est goose in Hollywood right now. And the goose will lay several eggs over the next couple of years.
First, we’ll get to see a cameo from Reeves in The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run in May. Then on the 21st of August, Reeves reprises his famous character Ted Logan in the much anticipated Bill and Ted Face the Music. The movie will see a reunion with Reeves’ good friend and the other half of the Bill and Ted Duo, Alex Winter.
But that’s just Reeves warming up because its 2021 when he finally goes supernova.
The Year of Keanu Reeves – 2021
If we have a random trivia and talk about two of Reeves greatest roles, they are unquestionably Neo and John Wick. Well, 2021 will be an unprecedented year for the Keanu brigade with the actor set to reprise both his iconic roles in quick succession.
A Matrix and a John Wick sequel are both planned to hit theatres by the mid of 2021. It’s a sign from above maybe. Its both John Wick 4 and Matrix 4. And the projected date for both is May 21, 2021. This may as well be in preparation to declare the 21st of May as the Keanu Reeves day.
21 May 2021 will be remembered as the ‘Keanu Reeves Day’.
But with that confirmed, there’s also an underlying hint of what will lie ahead after Keanu Reeves has reprised three iconic characters in the next two years. Reeves will reprise the remaining of his iconic roles moving forward.
Beyond 2021 – The Constantine Resurrection and things Fast get Furious
Reeves recently opened up in an interview about what he thinks of his chances of playing John Constantine again in the future. The 2005 film wasn’t a significant blockbuster to begin with but gradually succeeded in gaining cult status. It could be argued that Reeves would want to have another try at reaching similar heights with Constantine as he has been able to with Matrix and John Wick.
Another rumour around the industry is that Hollywood’s highest-earning star of 2019, Dwayne Johnson is working overtime to bring Keanu Reeves to the Fast and Furious franchise. We’ve seen Reeves ride a bike and we’ve seen him drive hard in movies like Speed, Street Kings and John Wick. A Reeves featuring F&F too may be on the cards.
Speed-ing up the Act
The next big project which still is doing rounds with a big question mark is Speed. The Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock starring Speed was an unprecedented hit and made worldwide fame in the CD-DVD era. For the sequel, Sandra Bullock was present but Reeves was replaced by Jason Patrick. Consequently, Speed 2 bombed. That shattered the hopes of a part 3 for decades.
But that was until Keanu re-emerged. Now with his extreme bankability and his forever friendship with Bullock (who has re-emerged herself), an unprecedented blockbuster in the Speed franchise is on the cards. If that does happen, we’d like to call it the second part.
The Marvel – DC War to bring Reeves onboard
Keanu Reeves is the most sought-after actor in the industry today. And superhero franchise films have emerged as the new Hollywood mantra to sure-shot success. Robert Downey Jr., Christian Bale, Chris Evans and Will Smith the biggest male leads of the day have played a superhero in either a DC or a Marvel film. And there’s no debating scores of reports that both DC and Marvel are working hard to woo Keanu Reeves and bring him on board in one of the future films.
Both DC and Marvel are working hard to woo Keanu Reeves and bring him on board in one of the future films.
There are reports of Reeves to replace Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in an X-Men Origins: Wolverine sequel. Then his name propped up as the new Ghost Rider. On the Marvel side, Feige is reportedly firm in his belief that Reeves has to be a part of the MCU future. Then his name resurfaces in the running for Moon Knight and then for Nightmare.
But nothing is yet confirmed apart from the zeal with which Marvel and DC are after Keanu Reeves. 2020 will be the year we get a confirmation on who lands Keanu Reeves out of the two behemoths.
