The possibility of a ‘12 Monkeys’ reboot is quite likely to happen but with a new set of the cast leaving out Amanda Schull.
One of the many things that ’12 Monkeys’ did was to make time travelling look cooler than ever. Whether it was travelling back in time to stop a plague or simply fighting the army of the ‘12 Monkeys’, creators of the show took the sci-fi to the next level.
Highlights:
- What went down in season 4 finale
- ‘12 Monkeys’ Season 5 will be revamped with a new cast, leaving Amanda Schull out of the picture
- Season 5 confirmation and release date
Inspired by Chris Marker’s ‘La Jetée’ and Terry Gilliam’s 1995 ‘Twelve Monkeys’, the American sci-fi mystery drama got the Syfy and Hulu audience hooked for 4 seasons. Clearly, 4 instalments were not enough and fans have started displaying their demands on social media. Speculations are making the rounds that ‘12 Monkeys’ is rebooting for season 5 with a new cast. But will the show be the same without Amanda Schull? Read on to figure out.
What went down in the season 4 finale
The season finale was a big, 2-hour ending that saw the Jones’ group making various attempts to erase Cole from time completely. Viewers were later taken through time travel with Cole, as he uses a personal time machine to go back in the past, to 2163, to find Titan and rescue him.

He then splinters to 2018 to rescue Jennifer as she falls onto the train tracks. After the transtemporal travel, Cole uses Titan’s computer to compile the Primaries’ program so they could stop the Red Forest paradox from destroying time.
All hell breaks loose with a massive battle between Jones’ group, the Army of ‘12 Monkeys’, with the Daughters and the West VII joining in soon. After a fight with Cassie, Olivia is shoved into a temporal energy beam, the top of her body splinters to the distant past, where she becomes the corpse from which the virus originated.
Cassie wants to be with Cole forever but that would cause the time to collapse, and so Cole talks her out of it, and she shuts down Titan before the Red Forest paradox occurs. The saddest part is when Ramse, Jennifer, and Cassie are sent back to their own times, while Cole and Jones share one last conversation before Jones dies of radiation poisoning.
In an attempt to save everyone, specifically Cassie, Cole loads the Primaries’ program into the time machine and activates it, erasing himself from time. This creates a new timeline in which time travel is never invented.
James Cole, the virus, and the army of the ‘12 Monkeys’ are erased from existence, and everybody else lives a happier life. However, one person who still remembers everything that has happened, specifically about Cole, is Cassie. Jones modifies the program which reinserts Cole into a new timeline. The two are reunited when Cole finds Cassie in the farmhouse where they once lived together. However, sudden changes to nearby leaves indicate that Cole’s existence is a temporal disturbance.

12 Monkeys Season 5 To Happen But Without Amanda Scull
‘12 Monkeys’ Season 5 will be revamped with a new cast, leaving Amanda Schull out of the picture
With a new timeline created, it would make complete sense to not have the old cast, specifically Amanda Schull. Cassie and Cole were always meant to be together, so with the former not existing anymore, Cassie’s role in the hopeful reboot wouldn’t be very intriguing to fans of the show. So, what has Schull been up to after the end of the show?
After the end of ‘12 Monkeys’, Amanda had recurring roles as Melissa Danson in the American crime drama ‘Murder in the First’ in 2016. Following that, Schull added ‘Love, Once and Always’ to her career with ‘Macgyver’ being the latest addition.
Season 5 confirmation and release date
Unfortunately, while announcing the release of the 4th season, the showrunners and cast confirmed that season 4 will also be the last. This meant no more reboots or revivals for ‘12 Monkeys’.
However, there are speculations that season 5 could be in the making in the future, if not any time soon. Other online reports suggest that a spin-off could also be a possibility. Hopefully sooner or later, ‘12 Monkeys’ will be rebooted with a new cast, storyline, and probably showrunner too!
