Miami Open: Roger Federer won his 101st career singles title defeating John Isner
On Sunday, Roger Federer defeated John Isner, defending champion at the Miami Open in straight sets. It was Federer’s 101st singles title. Winning over Isner, Federer grabbed his fourth Miami Crown. The match ended in just 64 minutes.
After the game, Federer said he was clear on how he wanted to play. He felt it helped him that he just not had the plan but was able to execute it.
The Swiss player said “I just can be very happy on either end, return and serve, and that’s why I’m so happy that I was able to produce a performance like this in finals because this is what you train for and play for that constantly keeps your level going up as the tournament progresses. And this was my best. I’m very excited.”
During the first set of the match, Isner started to feel pain in his foot. Isner was dejected due to the pain and had a terrible feeling. Anyone on his place would have gone through the same especially when one is in the middle of a tournament.
Keeping up the spirit of the sport, Isner appreciated Roger saying that “Not that I would have won the match, anyway, let’s make that clear, but I think I could have made for a more interesting match and one that was a little more fun. Roger was too good.”
The 100th achievement by Federer was in the previous month after winning Dubai Championship from Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas. It was a dream come true moment for Roger.
The first ever title Federer accomplished was when he was 19 years old. Since then, he has swept at least one trophy in every season. After American Jimmy Conors, Federer is the second man to achieve more than 100 tournament wins. Conor has claimed 109 titles.
We wish Roger heartiest congratulations on achieving the feat.
