The 38-year-old Roger Federer beat India’s Sumit Nagal by 3-1 in the Round-1 of US Open 2019.
Sumit Nagal became the first Indian who faced Federer in the US Open.
The 22-year-old Nagal won the first set of a game. He gave Roger Federer a tough time during the first set of the match and won by 6-4.
Since 2003, this is the first time when Federer lost the first set of a game in Round-1 of the US Open.
Nagal became the first Indian to win a set against star player Roger Federer. The 22-year-old Nagal became the fourth player to take the opening set against Roger Federer at the US Open.
After winning the first set, Sumit Nagal lost all other sets of the match. World No. 3 Roger Federer won the other three sets of a match by 6-1, 6-2 and 6-4. World No. 190 Nagal gave a tough fight to Federer but lost the match by 3-1.

Earlier in the day, India’s Prajnesh Guneeswaran lost the match against World No.5 Daniil Medvedev.
World No.3 Federer enters into the Round-2 of US Open 2019 after beating India’s Nagal. The 38-year-old Federer has won 20 Grand Slam titles in his career.
Roger Federer’s next match is on August 28 against Bosnian tennis player Damir Dzumhur.
