28th Sultan Azlan Shah Cup: Korea draws match against India
Amid rain-interrupted encounter, Korea managed to conclude the match to a 1-1 tie in the final minute against India in the on-going 28th Azlan Sultan Shah Cup on Sunday.
After winning their opening match against Japan, India made an attacking start against Korea but the Korean defenders held strong to avert an early goal.
Korea lost three players (Kim Hyeongjin, Jihun Yang and Lee Namyong) to green cards that reduced their strength to eight players. The situation was capitalized by India as they found easy gaps to make circle entry and India’s first goal was striked by experienced Mandeep Singh in the 28th minute.
Both the teams played on par with each other but with a little over eight minutes remaining for the final hooter, the game was called off due to heavy rains.
The game continued, with 53 seconds remaining, Korea won a penalty corner (PC) but Jonghyun Jang’s powerful drag-flick was brilliantly saved by India goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. A referral by Korea saw them being awarded another PC, this time it was converted resulting in a 1-1 draw.
India will now compete with the host Malaysia on March 26. (ANI)
