Serena Williams stunned after her come back to Melbourne Park defeating Germany’s Tatjana Maria
Age seems just a number to Serena Williams who made a ruthless start to her quest for a record-equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title with a 6-0 6-2 victory over unseeded German Tatjana Maria in the first round of the Australian Open on Tuesday.
Serena was playing her first grand slam after her infamous rant against the umpire at last year’s U.S. Open final was ruthless in her first match.
Serena stepped in with green jumpsuit which was sleeveless and she named it as – “Serena-tard”. “Nike always wants to make an incredibly strong, powerful statement for mums that are trying to get back and get fit. That was basically it for me,” Williams added.
Williams proved that she has lost none of her brutal power and athleticism even after giving birth to”Qai Qai”. She didn’t allow Tatjana Maria to settle down even for a single minute and went on to win both sets.
Post-match – she said
“It was nice to be back out there. Last time I was out there was a great moment, especially internally for me, it was even a better moment,” she added. “I think it was a good match today.”
Williams finished the match in just 49 minutes on her second match point when Maria, who is also her neighbor, sent a backhand wide.
She will play next match with Canadian Eugenie Bouchard, who beat Peng Shuai of China 6-2 6-1.
