Ethiopian teenager Samuel Tefera with his stunning performance in Birmingham broke Hicham El Guerrouj’s 22-year-old 1500m indoor world record.
Samuel Tefera (19) overtook Yomif Kejelcha, who was the favorite to win the race, with 200m to go and finished the race in world record time of 3 minutes 31.04 seconds.
He beat the record of legendary El Guerrouj’s previous mark of 3:31.18, set in Stuttgart in 1997.
Kejelcha finished the race in 3:31.58, who was undefeated indoors this year.
Josh Kerr finished fourth with his personal best of 3:35.72.
Tefera maintained a good record in Birmingham having won the world indoor title last year.
