Wolverhampton Wanderers are in a fight to keep their star striker Raul Jimenez. The West Midlands club has set an asking price between £60 to £70 million following interest from Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Mexico international scored 26 goals and assisted 11 times in all competitions last season, attracting attention from the top clubs in England. The 29-year-old can be regarded as one of Europe’s top strikers with his all-round contribution. Adding to his 11 assists, Jimenez also created 61 chances in total averaging 1.15 per game. The Mexican had been also involved in 63% of attacks ending in a goal, and 50% plays that resulted in a shot. The numbers speak for themselves, with Jimenez entering his peak years – the perfect time to put on a so-called ‘big club’ shirt.
There is no doubt that Wolves are desperate to keep hold of their main striker after narrowly missing out on a place in Europe in the recently ended season. Both Manchester United and Arsenal have been closely monitoring the situation, with a view to possibly signing the Mexico international before the new season starts.
Arsenal’s star striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has been linked with a move away from the Emirates that could open the door nicely for the transfer of Jimenez. After Romelu Lukaku’s departure last summer, Manchester United failed to find the right replacement for the Belgian, and had to bring in the 17-year-old academy kid Mason Greenwood. Neither of United’s front three in Martial, Rashford and Greenwood, are pure centre-forwards, which suggests Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s keen interest in adding a ‘proper number 9’ to his attacking personnel.
Wolves’ asking price for the striker signals their reluctance to sell, despite lining up another addition to their squad. SC Braga forward Paulinho has been linked with a move to the Molineux in a deal worth around £27 million. Whether the Brazilian striker is a potential replacement for Jimenez remains unknown; but knowing the ambitions of Wolverhampton as a club, it would not be surprising to see the Brazilian partnering his Mexico teammate for a new Premier League season.
