Real Betis vs Girona 3-2
Just as a draw appeared to be on the cards for Real Betis and Girona, a 94th minute penalty from Sergio Canales secured a dramatic 3-2 win for the home side.
It was an important victory that puts Betis back in the hunt for the European position again as they picked up their first three points of the new year.
Things started well for the hosts when a powerful Cristian Tello drive on 12 minutes put them in front before the visitors bounced back and proved their quality again, coming off the back of eliminating Atletico Madrid from the Copa del Rey.

Villarreal vs Athletic Bilbao 1-1
Villarreal remained in the relegation zone after drawing 1-1 at home to fellow strugglers Athletic Bilbao on Sunday but were fortunate to escape with a point after the Basque side were denied what looked to be a legitimate goal late in the game.
An own goal from Jaume Costa put Athletic ahead in the 18th minute in a meeting between two heavyweights of Spanish football who have fallen on hard times this campaign and changed managers in a bid to steer clear of the drop zone.
Cameroonian forward Karl Toko Ekambi slid in to score from close range to pull Villarreal level in the 71st minute, but confusion reigned when Inaki Williams tapped in what looked to be the winner in the 87th.

Levante vs Valladolid 2-0
While results haven’t gone their way lately, Levante have shown flashes of improvement and were, perhaps, unlucky to have lost to Atletico Madrid last weekend following a fine display against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey.
Now Paco López’s side will be looking to carry on this momentum and turn it into results starting with Valladolid at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia.
La Pucela don’t look like they’re on top of their game at the moment and were, arguably, lucky to have escaped with a point in their 1-1 draw against Valencia at Mestalla last Saturday after the hosts missed a number of great chances.
