FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be hosted at India and this will be the game changer
Recently FIFA announced the biggest news of India being the host country for FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2020. For the first time in history, a Chauhannation will be hosting and taking part in the tournament.
The head coach of Indian Women’s football senior team Maymol Rockey said that this will be a huge step in evolving the sport.
Maymol exclaimed that “she is delighted that an Indian women’s team will take part at a World Cup for the very first time. It will increase awareness about women’s football and in the process, create a bigger base for subsequent age-group and senior national teams – which is good for us as coaches as well“.
Maymol feels that this announcement has helped in spreading the game across the country and has brought out some amazing talents.
The senior team is quite happy with the news. Aditi Chauhan the goalkeeper of the Women’s team claimed this announcement to be a gamechanger for the sport in the country. Also, it will be a great platform to bring up fresh talents.
“It will be a golden opportunity for the girls to step up and change the way women’s football is looked at in our country. We are already moving in a positive direction and this World Cup will accelerate the process and can be a real gamechanger for us,” Chauhan said.
The defender of the team, Dalima Chhibbe also said World Cup to be a huge platform for young girls. This will inspire the parents to encourage their children in playing the sport.
Recently Women’s Senior team defeated Sri Lanka and entered the semi-final of South Asian Football Federation(SFFA) Championship. The next match is on Wednesday, March 20 against Bangladesh.
We wish both the Senior and U-17 team all the best for the upcoming matches and tournaments.
