Rio Ferdinand makes Liverpool hatred evident as he calls for the PL season to be void amid coronavirus concerns.
The coronavirus pandemic since its outbreak has turned the world upside down. Several countries have called for lockdowns. United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, too called for a three-week lockdown after 46 deaths were reported in 24 hours.
As a result, sporting events, like the Premier League, are left in jeopardy. In this time Rio Ferdinand insists that the Premier League must be voided to protect the health of the community.
Hence, the primary question is whether Ferdinand is being genuine about protecting the health or is he making such a statement to prevent his longstanding rivals, Liverpool, from winning the league after 30-long years.
Highlights: Is Rio Ferdinand jealous that Liverpool will finally win the league:
- Premier League Ensures Everyone All Precautions Will Be Taken.

Premier League, FA and EFL Joint Statement
The Premier League along with the FA and the EFL issued a joint statement to ensure that all necessary precautions will be taken when the season resumes. They also mentioned that the 2019/20 season must end before the 2020/21 season begins. The statement read,
“We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.”
Rio Ferdinand Yet Insists Premier League Season Must Be Void
However, despite assurance statements from the Premier League that the season will not resume until and unless it is safe, Rio Ferdinand insists that the Premier League must be void.
Ferdinand admitted that Liverpool will be extremely disappointed but insisted that risks cannot be taken in a time of life and death.
If the season is void, it will mean that Liverpool’s run of not winning the Premier League for 30 years will continue.
Ferdinand Wants Season To Be Called Off Because of Liverpool-United Intense Rivalry
However, many football fans will not buy Ferdinand’s statements. They are likely to believe that the statements are a result of jealously. Ferdinand, having played for Manchester United, has a longstanding rivalry against Liverpool.
United and Liverpool are the biggest rivals in English football since they are the two most successful English clubs. United has won the league 20 times while Liverpool has won it 18 times. However, since Liverpool has not won it for 30 years, Ferdinand would want the barren run to continue.
Ferdinand Makes Jealousy Evident
Ferdinand has made it clear that he wants the league to be void as he can see no possible way in which the league can proceed safely.
Rio Ferdinand said, “I know there’s going to be a lot of Liverpool fans going: ‘oh, Rio, just because you used to play for Man United.’ I just don’t see a way that can be done where health isn’t compromised.”
It seems obvious that Ferdinand is jealous that Liverpool is going to win the league. His legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, highlighted the rivalry in his epic statement in 2002,
“My greatest challenge was knocking Liverpool right off their f**king perch.”
It is true that the health and safety of individuals is the priority and that all necessary precautions must be taken, but voiding the league is not the solution.
Teams have worked tremendously hard to achieve what they have over the course of this season. Moreover, the league also decides European football spots, and voiding the league would mean that there will be no European football next season.
The question that one must ask Ferdinand then is that why did he not suggest for the 2020/21 season to be called off considering 75 % of the games have been played in the 2019/20 season.
