Christian Eriksen could be off to the Spanish capital in the summer
Real Madrid are looking to England as they plan to improve their squad in the summer. The Spanish giants are going through a disappointing season following the departure of Zinedine Zidane and the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Despite bringing in €100m for the Portuguese, Madrid failed to make any significant summer signings and are now paying the price. They now sit fourth in LaLiga, 10 points adrift of Barcelona. All that means an overhaul could be on the cards, with Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard the likely targets.
Eriksen and Hazard both have contracts expiring in 2020, meaning they could leave Tottenham and Chelsea respectively for nothing in just 18 months. According to the sources, both players are on Madrid’s shortlist for the summer.
The report says Madrid could spend £100m (€111m) on Eriksen, who was wanted by Barcelona as recently as last summer.
The 26-year-old has stalled on a new Tottenham deal despite the club offering to double his £70,000-a-week basic wages.
Madrid is optimistic they could strike a deal with Tottenham as they did when they signed Gareth Bale in 2013.
The report adds that Spanish international Isco, out of favor at the Bernabéu, could be used in the deal. The midfielder hasn’t started a league game since Santiago Solari took over the side at the end of October.
A deal for Hazard remains less likely, with Chelsea more willing to dig their heels in. The Belgian has starred under Maurizio Sarri so far this season and could yet sign a new deal.
