IPL 2019: KKR defeated KXIP by 7 wickets
Known to be cool, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik was in a different avatar yesterday against KXIP in a must-win IPL tie on Friday. Defeating Punjab, KKR is still in the game to qualify for playoffs.
Winning the toss, KKR opted to bowl first.
KXIP Playing XI – KL Rahul, C Gayle, M Agarwal, N Pooran (wk), M Singh, S Curran, R Ashwin (c), A Tye, M Ashwin, M Shami, A Singh.
Losing both the openers cheaply, KXIP had a shaky start. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle both went back to the pavilion within first five overs with just 22 runs on the board. Nicholas Pooran and Mayank Agarwal balanced the innings by adding 69 runs together on the board. Nicholas scored 48 runs in 27 balls.
After the duo’s dismissal, the first and last player to take a hat-trick this season, Sam Curran shone in his batting skills too. Curran smashed a quickfire fifty. Curran remained unbeaten on 55 in just 24 balls and took KXIP to a respectable total of 183.

KKR batsmen knew very well how important it was for them to grab the two points and no made no mistake in it. The openers, Shubham Gill and Chris Lynn divided the responsibility equally. Earlier Lynn was smashing with Gill defending the wicket at the other end. Lynn was dismissed at the last ball of the 6th over with 62 runs on board out of which Lynn’s contribution was of 46 runs in just 22 balls.
Robin Uthappa, Andre Russell and Dinesh Kartik all three of them played some mind blowing shots giving the team runs at the required pace. Shubham Gill at one end was standing like a rock and remained not out until crossing the target line. KKR achieved the target in just 18 overs getting the 2 crucial points.
