Mayank Agarwal made his Test debut against Australia on December 2018. India was struggling with the openers in that series against Australia on December 2018.
In the 3rd Test at MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground), Kohli included Agarwal in the playing XI and dropped Murali Vijay.
Impressive impact on Australia tour
Mayank Agarwal showed his class in the first innings of the MCG test and also in the final Test at Sydney. He scored two 70s at MCG and SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground) and with these impactful innings, Agarwal cemented his spot in India’s Test playing XI. After the Australia series, Agarwal did not perform well in the West Indies tour but team management showed trust in him.
Agarwal and Rohit’s record partnership vs South Africa
In the 1st match of South Africa series, Mayank Agarwal scored brilliant double hundred. He scored 215 in the first inning. In this match, Agarwal builds a solid opening partnership of 317 runs with team India’s new Test opener Rohit Sharma. In his double hundred, Agarwal hit 23 fours and 6 sixes. In Test cricket, this is the highest partnership by any Indian batting pair against South Africa.
Virat Kohli and team management will be very happy with Mayank Agarwal’s performance. India did not find a good Test opener after Virender Sehwag. If; Mayank Agarwal performed well in the upcoming matches and make runs with consistency then it will be very good for him and also for the Indian cricket.
