IPL 2019: RR won by 3 wickets against KKR
KKR Captain Dinesh Karthik’s unbeaten 50 balls 97 at Eden went in vain as KKR slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat. Setting up a score of 175/6 with his highest score in IPL and still ending up at the losing side due to Royals team effort in batting.
RR won the toss and asked the hosts to bat
KKR Playing XI – C Lynn, S Narine, S Gill, N Rana, D Karthik (c & wk), R Singh, A Russell, C Brathwaite, P Chawla, P Raj, P Krishna.
KKR innings started dull with Chris Lynn departing for a duck in the third ball of the first over. Runs were coming with a slow pace with Shubham Gill and Nitish Rana on the crease. The dismissal of the duo got KKR to 42/3 in 8.2 overs.
Karthik showed supple wrists and superb timing after taking seven deliveries to get his first run. KKR were in trouble but Karthik broke the shackles in the 11th over. That went for 25 runs with Karthik hoisting the first ball for six. KKR scored 75 in the last five overs largely because the skipper was flying solo.
RR Playing XI – A Rahane, S Samson (wk), S Smith (c), B Stokes, R Parag, S Binny, J Archer, S Gopal, J Unadkat, V Aaron, O Thomas.
Ajinkya Rahane and Sanju Samson opened the batting for RR brilliantly adding 53 runs for the first wicket. The duo departed in quick successions and the RR skipper Steve Smith too followed the suit.
The teenager Riyan Parag was the one to make KKR taste their own medicine with the support of Jofra Archer. Parag made 47 off 31 balls and his 44 runs stand for the seventh wicket with Archer sent KKR to their sixth consecutive defeat.
