IPL 2019: MI defeated KXIP by 3 wickets
Just like every other season runs are flowing this time too. KXIP opener KL Rahul anchored the innings with a neatly paced ton. Also, Chris Gayle’s fiery 36 balls 63 got KXIP to a mammoth total of 197. Still, the total proved to be insufficient in front of MI middle order batsmen, Kieron Pollard.
MI decided to bowl after winning the toss.
KXIP Playing XI – L Rahul (wk), C Gayle, K Nair, S Khan, D Miller, M Singh, S Curran, R Ashwin(c), H Viljoen, A Rajpoot, M Shami.
Gayle and Rahul were unstoppable for the night. The pair added 116 runs for the opening wicket. Gayle reminded once again why he is called Universe Boss. Gayle’s 63 had 7 maximums and 3 boundaries. Jason Behrendorff finally dismissed Gayle and broke the partnership but it was too late by then.
After Gayle’s dismissal, KL Rahul started to play even more ferociously and continued hitting runs. The other end was just coming and going if on strike. Till the 18th over, Rahul batted at a strike rate of 120 plus with 64 runs off 52 balls. The last two overs saw a top gear knock by Rahul scoring 36 off the final 12 deliveries to register his century. 19th over bowled by Hardik Pandya proved the costliest with 25 runs of the over.
MI Playing XI – S Lad, Q de Kock (wk), S Yadav, I Kishan, K Pandya, K Pollard(c), H Pandya, R Chahar, A Joseph, J Behrendorff, J Bumrah.
With Rohit Sharma out of the squad due to injury MI looked worried. MI openers Quinton de Kock and Siddhesh Lad started attacking but were unsuccessful.
