IPL 2019: CSK won by 7 wickets against KKR
Champions CSK eased to victory at their home ground by restricting KKR at 108/9 in 20 overs. CSK easily achieved the target in 17.2 overs at the loss of 3 wickets regaining the top spot in the table.
Winning the toss visitors were put to bat by hosts.
KKR Playing XI – C Lynn, S Narine, R Uthappa, S Gill, N Rana, D Karthik(c & wk), A Russell, P Chawla, K Yadav, P Krishna, H Gurney.
KKR had a miserable opening to the innings. The first three overs yielded three wickets and just nine runs. Pace bowler Deepak Chahar and spinners Harbhajan, Ravindra Jadeja and Imran Tahir completely dominated the KKR’s batsmen.
Openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine were dismissed for 0 and 6 respectively. Soon, Nitish Rana handed a simple catch in hands of Ambati Rayudu at Chahar’s delivery. Chahar did not let the pace go waste and took Robin Uthappa’s wicket too in his next over registering his third wicket of the day.
With the top order gone, KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik and Shubham Gill had to revive the innings. But the duo managed only 20 runs together. Tahir was the one to send both the players back in quick succession.
Now all the eyes were on KKR’s power-hitter Andre Russell. Russell played a very uncharacteristic knock. He waited to settle down and even got a life on eight when Harbhajan dropped the catch. He kept charging slowly and found his touch in the final over smashing two boundaries and a six. This meant KKR crossed the 100 run mark.
CSK were all set to bat for an easy to achieve a target
CSK Playing XI – S Watson, F du Plessis, S Raina, A Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c & wk), K Jadhav, R Jadeja, S Kuggeleijn, H Singh, D Chahar, I Tahir.
With most of the job done by bowlers, batsmen didn’t have much to do. Narine tried his best in bowling to bring KKR back in the game. Dismissing opener Shane Watson and then Suresh in the next over of his spell Narine gave the slightest hope in a one-sided match.
Another opener, Faf du Plessis and Ambati Rayudu stitched a 46 run stand devoid of any flashy shots and put CSK in control. Though Rayudu departed with CSK on 81, du Plessis and ensured to finish the game and put CSK off the mark. Du Plessis played a decent knock of 43 runs off 45 balls.
