IPL 2019: KXIP defeat SRH by 6 wickets
Sunrisers Hyderabad scampered in to bat against Kings XI Punjab with the most successful opening pair of the season. David Warner and Jonny Bairstow have given three-century stands to their side but yesterday wasn’t their night. The hosts KXIP came out with a better strategy and executed it well.
KXIP won the toss and put visitors to bat first.
SRH Playing XI – D Warner, J Bairstow (wk), V Shankar, M Pandey, D Hooda, Y Pathan, M Nabi, R Khan, B Kumar(c), S Kaul, S Sharma.
Even before, Warner and Bairstow could settle, spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman dismissed Bairstow in the second over. Bairstow faced 6 balls and could only add 1 run. SRH could hit only 2 sixes and 12 boundaries in their entire innings. David Warner remained not out till the end and made 70 runs. Though his 70 was not that fast, his runs were almost half of the total score of SRH.
Other than Warner, the middle order batsmen failed miserably to add pace to runs. Vijay Shankar faced 27 deliveries and made only 26 runs. Deepak Hooda impressed by smacking 2 boundaries and 1 six in 3 balls he faced and got Hyderabad to a total of 150.
KXIP Playing XI – KL Rahul (wk), C Gayle, M Agarwal, S Khan, D Miller, Mandeep, S Curran, R Ashwin(c), Mujeeb, A Rajpoot, M Shami.
Despite losing Chris Gayle early, KXIP opener KL Rahul and middle-order batsman Mayank Agarwal did not low down the momentum. Rahul and Agarwal built a partnership of 118 runs for the second wicket. Agarwal though got dismissed just when the finishing line was near scoring 55 runs off 43 balls.
Rahul though played till the end and put KXIP past the total grabbing a splendid win. Rahul smacked brilliant 71 runs off 53 balls with 7 fours and 1 big hit.
