IPL 2019: MI won by 37 runs from CSK
Mumbai Indians didn’t disappoint the crowd last night at Wankhede. The two famous enemies of IPL were against each other last night – Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). MI defeated the undisputed CSK in this year’s edition for the first time.
CSK won the toss and decided to field first.
MI Playing XI – R Sharma(c), Q de Kock (wk), S Yadav, Y Singh, K Pollard, H Pandya, K Pandya, J Behrendorff, R Chahar, J Bumrah, L Malinga.
MI started off shaky with the bat. Quinton de Kock departed in the third over with just 8 runs on board. Suryakumar Yadav started adding runs on one side but Rohit Sharma was still unable to click. Sharma still due for runs was caught out by MS Dhoni on Ravindra Jadeja’s ball. Yuvraj Singh, who has shown glimpses of powered knocks was unable to connect too.
Krunal Pandya came in and supported Yadav. The combo formed a partnership of 62 runs and got MI back in the game. After the duo’s dismissal, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard were completely brutal to the bowlers in death overs. They both sealed 45 runs together in the last 2 overs. Dwayne Bravo gave away 29 runs in the final over which made the difference.
CSK Playing XI – A Rayudu, S Watson, S Raina, K Jadhav, MS Dhoni(c & wk), DJ Bravo, R Jadeja, D Chahar, S Thakur, M Sharma, I Tahir.
The Champions yesterday night were at their lowest possible start. The openers Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson were dismissed in the first two overs of the innings by Behrendroff and Lasith Malinga respectively. Suresh Raina once again disappointed the men in yellow.
Kedhar Jadhav steadied the innings with his half-century with Dhoni defending the wicket on another end. However, the pressure of run rate kept increasing and wickets were falling at regular intervals. The run chase ended on an unsuccessful note for the yellow boys. CSK made only 133 runs in 20 overs at loss of 8 wickets.
Hardik Pandya was awarded Man of the Match for his brilliant 8 balls 25 and spell of 3-20.
