Preview: India vs South Africa 2nd Test at MCA Stadium, Pune
The 2nd Test match of a series between India and South Africa
In the 2nd Test, India will look for the series win while South Africa wants to level the series by 1-1.
After winning the 1st Test match by 203 runs, India is very confident. Currently, India is in a good form and will look to continue their winning run in World Test Championship. Till now, India has played three matches in WTC (World Test Championship) and won all of them.
It is very difficult for any team in the world to beat India in the Test at home. Since 2010, India has played 46 Test matches at home in which they lost only 4 matches and won 33 matches.
India looks to clinch the series
India has already won a series (West Indies) in World Test Championship. In the 2nd Test against South Africa, India will look for the series win. If; India win this series then it is going to be 11th consecutive series win for them at home. India is in a supreme form and they performed really well in the 1st Test at Vizag. In the 2nd Test, team India will be focusing on their natural game to clinch the series.
Challenges for South Africa
After the retirement of some greats like – AB De Villiers, Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn, South African team did not play good cricket at International level. In a 1st innings of the Vizag Test, South Africa has shown some character but they lost the match by 203 runs. Before the 2nd Test, Proteas has some issues that they have to solve.
1.Weak bowling attack: In the 1st Test, we saw that South Africa’s bowling attack is very weak. South African bowlers did not bowl well in the 1st Test. In the previous Test match, they played with only 4 bowlers in which no one looks comfortable except Kagiso Rabada.
In the 2nd Test, Proteas should play with their strength by including one more pacer in their bowling attack. South African spinners are inexperienced and looked ineffective in the 1st Test. Faf Du Plessis should drop one spinner from their Playing XI for the 2nd Test match.
2. The spin Challenge: In the 1st Test, Proteas did not play the Indian spinners with good technique. Ashwin and Jadeja are the quality spinners and it is going to very difficult for African batsmen to play good cricket against them. Pune’s wicket is spin-friendly and the result of a 2nd Test will depend on the approach of African batsmen against the Indian spinners.
The Pitch of MCA Stadium, Pune is a spin-friendly wicket. India had played only one Test on this wicket against Australia, which India has lost by 333 runs. After this Test match, ICC gave a poor rating to this wicket. Most probably the pitch for this match is going to be spin-friendly wicket.
Pre-match Press Conference
Before the 2nd Test match, Faf Du Plessis said that we will make a good comeback in the 2nd Test. He also added that it will be very good if; pitch has some good spin. On the other hand, Indian captain Virat Kohli said, ” We have to be professional in every session of the match”. On WTC, he said, teams did not want a draw. All teams want to win matches to get extra points and it is very good for the Test cricket.
