IPL 2019: DC lost to KXIP by 14 runs
The typical characteristic of every season’s IPL matches has been the twists and turns in the death overs. Yesterday, we witnessed the same once again in the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Till 16.3 overs the game clearly looked in the pockets of DC. KXIP made an epic comeback in the game and choked the visitors from 144/3 to 152/10 which endorsed an alluring hattrick by Sam Curran.
Winning the toss, DC elected to field first.
KXIP Playing XI – KL Rahul (wk), M Agarwal, S Khan, D Miller, M Singh, S Curran, R Ashwin(c), H Viljoen, M Ur Rahman, M Ashwin, M Shami.
KXIP had a shaky start with opener KL Rahul departing early. Even, Curran and Mayank Agarwal went back too soon reducing Punjab to 58/3 in 7.1 overs. Though the pace of runs was still maintained even after losing wickets in short spans. Middle order batsmen, Sarfaraz Khan and David Miller played some elegant shots and added 62 runs together for the fourth wicket.
The game was going forward steadily with the fall of wickets at regular intervals and run rate being maintained. Mandeep Singh took Punjab to a total of 166 by stealing boundaries in the last over. Chris Morris proved his worth by grabbing 3 wickets.
Delhi Capitals all set with a thrilling Super Over win in the last game were set to roll Mohali to replay the performances by batsmen.
DC Playing XI – P Shaw, S Dhawan, S Iyer(c), R Pant (wk), H Vihari, C Ingram, C Morris, S Lamichhane, K Rabada, A Khan, H Patel.
The 99 run scorer against KKR, Prithvi Shaw and the harsh batsmen Shikhar Dhawan came out to bat. Shaw was dismissed on the first ball of the innings by KXIP skipper, Ravichandran Ashwin.
DC skipper, Shreyas Iyer with Dhawan balanced the run rate and added 61 runs on the board. After Iyer’s return to the dugout, Dhawan too was sent back by Ashwin after one over. The wickets didn’t affect DC much as Rishabh Pant and Colin Ingram took the responsibility at their shoulders and was handling it cordially until Pant was bowled out by Mohammed Shami.
Sad for DC but a miracle for KXIP happened with Pant’s wicket the team collapsed like anything. DC lost seven wickets for eight runs. With the way they were going only run-a-ball was required and still ended up facing a defeat by 14 runs.
DC skipper was highly disappointed and said “I am really speechless. It is a crucial match and losing such matches is not going to benefit us.”
Sam Curran played a major role in KXIP second continuous win at Mohali with by dismissing Harshal Patel, Kagiso Rabada and Sandeep Lamichanne in 3 balls and registered the first hat-trick of the season at his name.
