-South Africa and Sri Lanka remain at 8th and 7th position respectively
The South African cricket team thrashed Sri Lanka in match number 35 of the ICC World Cup 2019 on Friday. This was South Africa’s second win of the tournament.
Post this loss, Lanka’s hopes for semi-final qualification took a big blow. Batting first, Lanka were bundled out for 203.
SA eased past the target with Faf du Plessis and Hashim Amla playing sensible knocks.
Thumping consolation win for South Africa; pressure on Sri Lanka.
How did the match pan out?
Lanka got off to a flier, before over ambition cost them big time as they collapsed from 67/1 to 111/5.
Since then, Lanka never got going as SA kept taking crucial wickets. Dwaine Pretorius, who made his World Cup debut, shined for SA (3/25).
In reply, Amla and Faf showed their class and experience to get the side past the target.
Pretorius and Morris dominated the Lankans batsmen

The win, however, was set up by Dwaine Pretorius and Chris Morris once South Africa opted to bowl. Sri Lanka, once again, threw away a promising start as the middle-order capitulated under pressure to hand the ascendancy to du Plessis and his bowlers.
Amla and Faf script individual feats
Hashim Amla registered his third ODI fifty in 2019. The senior cricketer also notched his 39th career ODI fifty. It was his second half-century in the ongoing World Cup.

Faf du Plessis amassed his sixth ODI fifty in 2019. This was his third fifty in CWC 19. It was also his 35th career ODI half-century. He is South Africa’s highest run-scorer in CWC 19.
A look at an interesting trivia
South Africa and Afghanistan were the only two teams in ICC World Cup 2019 who have not conceded byes so far. Unfortunately, the Proteas conceded runs through byes against Lankans which makes Afghanistan the only team to maintain this unusual feat
