Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan has been ruled out of 2019 World Cup and Rishabh Pant has been added to the team
Team India’s World Cup campaign suffered a major blow on Wednesday as opener Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out of the tournament due to a thumb injury.
Rishabh Pant has been brought in as a replacement of Shikhar Dhawan.
Promising wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant was already with the team as cover for Dhawan.
Pant was brought in as cover for Dhawan after the team management decided to wait on the senior opener’s recovery but the assessment of the injury this week did not throw encouraging results.
Pant had scored impressive hundreds during the Test tours of England and Australia. He also enjoyed a good run in the IPL last month, scoring 488 runs with a strike rate of over 160.
Another major worry for India is the injury of Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar is out for three matches with a hamstring niggle.
Bhuvneshwar is being assessed by team physio Patrick Farhart.
