Another drama unfolded and this time two arch rivals of Uttar Pradesh – SP and BSP uniting in a bid to defeat Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP ahead of national elections in May 2019.
The two parties have decided to fight elections together realising that both have their vote base and the divide will only be counter productive. Uttar Pradesh is the largest state and accounts for 84 Loksabha seats , that said: the party that commands in UP – most likely gets to win the majority for forming Government at the centre.
It isn’t clear how the seats will be distributed and what job the Congress party as the main opposition will have in the state, however SP’s boss Akhilesh Yadav implied that it won’t have a critical job to carry out. On the other hand , Congress is attempting to manufacture a supposed “Mahagathbandhan” with different parties in anticipation of gathering the larger vote bank.
“We can give Congress two seats they have always held,” Akhilesh Yadav told news channel NDTV, alluding to bodies electorate from where Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Mrs.Sonia Gandhi have contested in the past. SP representative declined to expand, and said further details will be uncovered in a joint meeting by the SP and BSP on Saturday.
Opposition parties across India received overwhelming response in the state elections a month ago and those results have shaken Modi and team in their preparation for elections 2019. BJP , last year had achieved a massive victory in UP elections and the new ploy of SP an BSP could potentially affect the resultant during Loksabha elections says Political Pandits.
The BJP had a 40 percent vote share in the state elections, the BSP and SP set up together represented 44 percent. This could be the difference that Modi and Amit shah will have to counter attack if they want to retain their supremacy in the upcoming elections. Amit Shah has been claiming that there is no dent in their popularity and they will come out victorious and his forecast is to win 74 seats out off the total 80 in UP.
