Modi keeping his poll promise of providing safe drinking water to people, introduced a new ministry called ‘Jal Shakti’ which will headed by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat.
Gajendra Singh Shekhawat who was the Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare and represented the Jodhpur parliamentary constituency in 2014, will be heading the Ministry. Jal Shakti has been created by reorganizing the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, which was headed by Nitin Gadkari in the previous government. Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation has also been added to it.
- The ministry will cater to many aspects relating to water, ensuring clean water and better irrigation water facilities for the farmers also ending water woes in the country.
- Actually, during an election rally in Tamil Nadu, Modi had assured that if voted back to power, his government would ensure the establishment of a separate Jal Shakti Ministry.
- BJP leader Shekhawat, who is heading this ministry got promoted as the Cabinet minister this time and has defeated Vaibhav Gehot, son of Ashok Gehlot in Jhodpur constituency in 2014.
