Critics of Poland’s Stop Pedophilia Law claim it is a disguised homophobic missile of hatred that attacks the country’s LGBTQ community, a number of whom are sex-ed teachers.
The government of Poland is leaning in favor of a law that will make the line between sex-education and pedophilia murky. The legislation aims to punish some sex education teachers in schools who allegedly are turning little boys into gays. But one the other hand, the critics of the law claim it is a disguised homophobic missile that attacks the country’s LGBTQ community, a number of whom are sex-ed teachers.
The conservatives in support of this legislation are confusing the more open attitude towards gender normalization with sex education teachers encouraging heterosexual behavior among children.
Schooling in Poland
Poland has an education system funded by the government and administered by the local government. Education is mandatory for everyone between the ages of 5-18 with every state school free of cost.
Poland doesn’t have an obligatory sex-education curriculum.
If the legislation passes, then the teachers educating kids about sex-education can face prison up to 5 years. Kaczorek, co-president of the Love does exclude association, an LGBTQ family group said that “usually school is not a friendly environment for non-heterosexual kids. But now it will be even harder.”
The LGBTQ community in Poland
Although LGBTQ people are provided with the same rights as heterosexuals in most areas, they are still ostracized for certain parts of Poland referred to as LGBTQ free zones. Here, people other than heterosexuals aren’t welcomed.
From the testimonies of several people living in Poland that belong to the LGBTQ community, it is pretty clear that almost half of Poland doesn’t believe and support people having a non-heterosexual orientation. After the Stop Pedophilia law rose from a petition signed by 250,000 in Poland, the blatant show of hatred towards the LGBTQ community was condemned globally. The UN has urged countries not to use the pandemic as an opportunity to attack the LGBTQ community.
Fishy Propaganda: Conversationalist Ideology
The new legislation might be a trump card for many activists and lobbyists of the conversationalist ideologies to suppress those who aren’t in support of their traditional norms. This kind of thought process is what the world has been trying to fight for ages in order to evolve as a better civilization.
Will the government rule out in favor of the new legislation or not? That’s still a big question. Will it affect the lives of many in Poland? Definitely, Yes! What are your thoughts on the matter? What should be done? Tell your thoughts in the comment section below.
