A Chinese military team has been kicked out of World Military Games on the grounds of ‘Extensive Cheating’ claims raised by other countries. The hosts were found guilty.
China thought that the hosts are immune to cheating. Hence, Chinese teams indulged in extensive cheating practices hoping they would never be caught. However, disaster came to them as they are now disqualified from the World Military Games. Other countries claimed to judges to investigate their claims of Chinese ill-mannered behavior, which proved correct eventually.
The investigation discovered that Chinese runners were assisted by local spectators. The viewers placed markings and prepared special paths for their personnel in the terrain. Apparently, only the Chinese athletes knew about these paths.
Based on the discoveries of the investigation committee, the Chinese team was not allowed to participate in the long-distance orienteering competition.
IOF Secretary General Tom Hollowell said, “The IOF takes the actions of the Chinese team very seriously. We are investigating whether any further actions need to be taken to guarantee the fairness of competition at the upcoming World Cup final in Guangzhou, China from October 25”.
The Military World Games occur every four years. The preliminary event was held in Rome in 1995 while China is hosting the games for the first time in history.
Amid the ongoing woes, more than 9000 athletes from 109 countries are participating in the 2019’s World Military Games.
