Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is planning to build its own space station. Groundwork to start after the Gaganyaan mission.
ISRO is taking massive strides in space research and expedition and has now announced their plan to have India’s very own space station.
India will become only the 4th country on this planet to have its “own” space station.
- ISRO chief K Sivan said that ISRO is planning to have its own space station by 2030.
- This space station will be built to sustain India’s manned space mission, Gaganyaan, and experiments on microgravity.
- Currently there is only one working space station in earth’s orbit, the International Space Station, which was a joint mission of US, Russia, Japan and 14 European countries.
- India will become the 4th nation to have its own space station after Russia, US and China.
Talking about the Gaganyaan
Gaganyaan is India’s first manned space flight mission. ISRO is planning to send 3 astronauts for a seven days trip to the lower orbit of Earth i.e. 300-400 kms above the surface of Earth.
The estimated budget of this project is around 10000 crore, and will be completed by 2023, marking our countries 75 years of independence. It will take only 16 minutes to reach its destination and 36 hours to return and land in the Arabian Sea.
India will become the 4th nation to achieve this feat. ISRO may take help from other space agencies to accelerate the program. The program will also provide employment to 15,000 people.
